First Post, but I'll try not to sound too newbie-ish *hehe*

I am planning on building a high powered RB20 (cost permitting) to drop in an s14 chassis.. I am shooting for about 400hp and >8000 redline. Here are my current ideas:

Crank: Rb26Rods: Rb26Pistons: Custom 82mm Forged 8.5 cr(According to Meggala's site, these items drop in and stroke the engine to 2.4L - More low end torque, while retaining high-revving capability)Exhaust manifold: Stock RB20??Intake manifold/plenum: Unstable-hybrids (need to call and discuss)Turbocharger: HKS GT-RS (rb20 ex. man has t25 flange, correct?)Intercooler: Something high flow w/little pressure drop, suggestions welcome :)Injectors: Rx-7 555 cc/min (I've read that they drop in?)Fuel Pump: GTR or WalbroFuel Rail/Lines: Are stock adequete? Suggestions appreciatedEngine Management: APEXi Power FC ?? Suggs. welcomeHead: RB20 (will rb25/rb26 fit? - I head they both flow significantly better than the rb20)Upgraded exhaust/CAI

Kinda of a Rough draft..Any input, positive or negative, is helpful

If your gonna do all that just get a damm RB25DET. You really shouldnt attempt this by yourself. Do you really think that a CAI is gonna make a huge HP jump over a normal Intake? Also you might wanna get a standalone as a Power FC will be useless to the frankenstiened engine.

I'm not positive, but I too think it would be more cost effective to use an RB25.

Right about the standalone..have been trying to find info about NISSDATA

Cost-wise, most of the rb25 front clips I come across are in the 4000 range, whereas rb20 clips are 1000-1500.

I can prob. find used rb26 crank and rods for 6-800.

This way, for the cost of the rb25 clip alone, I can have strong internals from the get-go (albeit a lot more work involved :) ), a higher redline, 2.4L torque, and a unique motor

SpeedRacer: He never said the CAI would be his main powerplant, but every little bit helps. It certainly has its advantages over the regular intake.

a CAI makes little to no difference in a turbocharged application so long as there is an efficient intercooler.

I've built a few 400 hp RB20's. All retain the stock bottom end. If you want the RB20 because of the price I can tell you how to build a reliable 400 HP with out having to rebuild the bottom end.

I'm with the rest of the guys above, way to much work just to get a 2.4. Hell you might as well work on a KA24DET. The parts are definitly around for better prices.

My stock intake was just fine 498RWHP. Of course I put a s*** load of time into it to get that far. But its attainable. So spend your money on things that will make more the just 2-3 peak hp more. The stock intake has noce long runners for better lowend "Q".

Shoot me an email, I'll give you an easy shopping list.

I'm with wd on this no need for the rb2.4 yet if you only want 400 hp. all you need is a t04 e or a big t3 hiflow. injectors ecu remap z32 afm and possibly and head gasket (dont do it till it lets go).it will be laggy full boost @ 5000 rpm but you will make the power the stock rb20 will handle 8000 rpms fine. if you go the 2.4 with the rb26 crank you can raise that to 8500-9000. the rb20 uses a t3 flange not a t25 so that makes life easier.dont forget an stronger clutch and you should be fine if you are even considering going more than 400 hp then consider the rb25 gearbox rather than the rb20 one as it is much stronger.meggala

You need to find a time machine. This thread was done in 2002.
