Alright guys i finally finished my build with the holset hx35 on the rb20 and i get everything hooked up and take it for a spin and it will not build any boost. Its a synapse wastegate and i adjusted the spring on the gate and thought that might have something to do with it but no dice. Any ideas???

I checked for boost and vacuum leaks and im all good there. My only other idea is i might have the vacuum lines ran wrong to the wastegate or that the internal gate on the hx35 holset is leaking. I tacked the arm for the flap shut and figured that would be enough but i guess its possible that its not.

Anybody have any diagrams on how to hook up the synapse wastegate. Its got 3 different ports and i dont have the book since i bought the wastegate from a friend. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

ok i tried using that diagram and i hooked up the boost controller and it helped barely. I checked for boost leaks and came up with nothing. Im beginning to think its the wastegate or either the internal gate is leaking. I welded about 3/4 of the way around it but i guess it could still be leaking. Anybody else have any suggestions??? Please help!!

If you welded the flapper 3/4 of the way I don't think thats the problem. Unless the weld didn't penetrate and with the heat just fell apart.

Do you have a laser temp gauge? If so take a reading of the downpipe at idle with the car running for a bit, then take a reading of the wastegate dump tube.

It should be a bit lower. If your Dump tube is re-routed back into the exhaust it might not read any difference.

But.....Maybe you have the boost controller hooked up wrong. Why don't you hook the WG directly to the Intake manifold/vacuum source.

That way you can eliminate complications of the BC.

Also maybe the Diaprham in you WG is ripped. If so then your exhaust pressure would be just pushing the valve open.

Blow in the C port (or what ever port your using) and make sure it holds pressure. If it doesn't you've found your problem.

Well i thought the synapse didnt have a diaphragm?? i had the wastegate with no vacuum ran to it thinking the spring alone wouldnt allow the exhaust through but i guess i was wrong. In hooking up the synapse wastegate it has 3 ports. a c, a d and an a. Is this the c you were talking about?? Also can i just hook to any of them to test it?? It came with an extra spring and i thought maybe the stock spring was really weak but i think its impossible for it to be that weak. Maybe i just got a crappy wastegate...

The synapse is pretty funky and the hose routing is weird. If you're using a boost controller you may need to plug a hole on the top of the w/g. See herehttp://synapseengineering.com/...=97.0

I quickly looked at that 1st pdf link and it says that if your not sure how to use it connect your vac source to "Port C"

Oh I have no idea if it has a diaphragm or not.But it should work on the same pricipal.

Boost pressure should hold the valve shut till a certain point and then it should open up.

But I would read that pdf because it seems that this WG isn't a simple unit.

ok thanks guys that helps a lot!! I dont even have a nipple on the 2nd hole from the top or a plug in the top hole. I guess those were my problem. Thanks again!
