I'm sure this has been covered a couple times. But I can't remember where I saw it.

But I could of sworn there are a couple people using RB bellhousings on KA transmissions.Siline has a bad transmission and has a rebuilt KA transmission lying around.

I searched KA trans, KA transmission, Transmission, KA transmission.Couldnt find anything!!

Also I remember someone posting that you can't use the whole KA transmission rebuild kit. Only 1st and 3rd???????

you ever notice, they never seem to delete these threads, no matter how many times people reply with "please delete" LOL. Annoying when you search and find a bunch of "please delete" threads... Might as well make it useful and link to the KA-trans-on-RB20 FAQ thread or quote some useful info in here. hehe

As per Karma 240

"1st. I have the ka transmission on my rb20det with no frame or floor pan mods.

2nd. This does require a custom drive shaft unless you use the s14 drive shaft in which case it will fit but will also put undo pressure on your transmission and can cause premature wear on certain bearings.

3rd. The internals are almost exactly the same and swapable from housing to housing. the only real difference is the input shaft especially the bearings. (they are not as strong on the KA)

4th. I personally have done this swap and do not think it is worth the time or hassle."

Thanks for posting that info. I didn't realize it took a custom driveshaft... Figured if my 20 trans ever shat itself I would use the KA trans. Think you're gonna go thru with it?

Oh by the way she sounds beautifull

sweetest sound ive heard.

i got my motor ... happend to be a 4wd motor, got the transmission seperate..they claimed it was an rb20 box, didnt line up with the 4wd motor, had 2 slot the upper right bolt hole to get it on, shifter sits super far back, still have no idea what transmission it is? but we don't have ka's on the island ( st.lucia) ...so i know its not a ka box, maybe a ca or an sr?

Sent you some pics ..

look at them and compare, but it kinda sounds like a KA ..

What mounts are you using ???That looks like it sits pretty far back ..

Oh and read the link above, unstable240 states that hes done your swap, but that the two bols that dont match up means your motor is not an AWD.

my engine is definately 4wd, as im still using the 4wd oil pan that it came with, as far as mounts go, welded in customs brackets on the the stock sr subrame (i should have mentioned that my car is rhd and had an sr20de to begin with) the transmission mount and xmember is the one of the auto sr20de transmission, i looked at the pics and couldnt really identify,

this is the only pic i can find of the box im using ...

Would it not be cheaper to buy an adapter plate and swap the T56 Transmission in? Also alot easier?

I can find the T56 here in a junk yard for around 500$ and the plate I think was around 400$. I have the link at home on my Pc.

Just a thought.

the little bitty ca transmission is like the ka's/sr's.... just the bellhousing that is longer, due to the smaller motor.
