Just curious to see where you guys are putting your temperature sensors at for your aftermarket gauges. As most of you know you cant fit one of the hose adapters in the upper hose and I'd like to get away from putting it in the lower hose if possible.

Pictures of y'alls locations and what you did to put them there would be great! Thanks in advance.

you cant put it in your lower hose. the readings will be 100% wrong.

you sure you cant fit it? i had one on a rb25 no problem in my car.

and your gonna have to drill/tap the upper neck where the old sensor for the gauge cluster is if you cant make a upper hose adapter work.

yeah, pretty damn sure. i'm using the r32 crossmember, not a mount kit so the motor sits a bit more forward. i think if i had a mount kit i might just squeak by with a hose adapter but yeah, no dice with the crossmember.

also, i think rb25 upper hoses are a bit different from rb20's, my upper hose is literally like 4 inches long and about 2 1/2 inches of that is the inlet on the motor/outlet on the radiator.

yeah i'm not gonna put it in the lower hose, that would be pointless. i'll probably end up doing like you said and drilling out the threads where the sensor is for the factory gauge. i figured this is what i would have to do but I was hoping there was something i was missing haha. thanks for your response

I went with the drill + tap method. It was easy-peasey. I stuffed a paper towel in the intake past where I was drilling / tapping and attached my shop-vac's hose to the opposing end (so it sucked everything into the shop-vac and pulled air from the hole being tapped).

I think I spent more time getting everything set up, than actually drilling and tapping the hole! Everything came out clean / clear. I tapped mine for a larger bushing to mount my Defi coolant temp sender in.

well guess im drilling and tapping through fresh powdercoat lol. hopefully it holds up, if not whatever i'll redo it i guess...

only other option i could come up with is to make myself an adapter to go in line on the water pipe that runs underneath the intake manifold and then cut said pipe to make room for it and then reflare the ends. idk, i'll figure it out.

thanks for all of your responses, my fault for not dealing with this before i coated the damn manifold!

lol i kept my stock sensor...i like a functional cluster even if its only got 3 settings...i'll take a pic of where i located mine...best drilled off engine.

yeah, im not gonna drill there, somewhere in that area, but i want the factory sensor. thanks as always carl. i think i actually saw where yours was friday, to the right of the factory sensor but on the back side of the water neck.

the manifold is still off the motor at the moment so its not a huge deal. i'll just look for the thickest part of the coolant neck i can find and drill away. hopefully i can find somewhere that wont be noticeable if i **** up the coating.
