RB20 turbo help

Hey all, i'd first like to say i have searched this problem and can't find any answers.

My turbo seems to be making a loud and continuing whining noise when i get on it. It first sounded like my tires were screeching, but after it doing it a few times it sounds like its coming from the turbo. It just started doing this yesterday. After parking it in my garage i revved it up and the noise came around 6k rpm and also i could see smoke coming from my exhaust in my mirror. So i was wondering what may be causing this or what i need to do to fix it? Is my turbo shot? etc etc.Any help would be appreciated.

its a rb20 stock turbo in a 90 240sx.

after talking to a few people it sounds like my bearings are bad. Can anyone help confirm or deny this? And i read that it is probably cheaper to just buy a used rb20/25 turbo rather than getting my current one rebuilt. Is this true?

yup cheaper to buy a used one then rebuild.

Fortunatly i have a rb20turbo with no shaft play that ran fine.

Save some money and get the turbo reworked with a new center section and steel blades. It will more than likely flow way more hp than the old unit and you won't be limited to 12-14psi if u upgrade your injectors.

Thanks for the replies... but i already took care of this. I just bought a RB25 turbo.
