I just swapped a rb20det 5spd in to a 91 240 auto. When i was puting the KA 5spd driveshaft in, the whole thing was really tight, and had almost no play. Yesterday we had it started and took it for a test drive. we turned around and we start seeing sparks from Those bolts that hold the input shaft onto the rest of the driveshaft, and the metal cover on the end of the transmission were rubbing. What do people normally do? Just cut that metal guard off? Thanks

That's waaay tighter than I would expect. What mounts are you using?

With an R32 x-member, you should have enough play in the driveshaft to be able to install a VLSD with ABS sensor with no trouble, i.e. you should have at least 1" of free play.

Also, on my 95, the front coupling slid right into the transmission dust cover without touching. There must be something funny about the driveshaft you are using if it will not do that (S13 vs. S14 I guess).

I think you're referring to the guard at the tail of the trans, if so, you just trim it back and it should be fine....mine doesn't even have that part.

We ended up cutting the dust guard off. I'm using the r32 crossmember but i had a broken motor mount so theres a ka one on the driver side

For future reference and ease, that metal cover thingy slides off with just a bit of persuasion.
