I have searched for the past 2 days. On here and zilvia. and could not find direct answers. Everyone says 2 options, Use R32/RB cross member and notch hood. Or get mckinny mounts. BUT, i've also heard the myth of people using their stock cross members. I've read in one of these archived threads of people turning the KA cross member around. That is what intrigues me. Is this true? Is anyone out there rockin an RB20 swapped S13. Using a modified KA crossmember? A local shop is hooking me up with the full swap for 1200. It doesn't have the transmission crossmember though, and they said they CAN get it but it could take months to actually get here on a container. Other than that I can not find one anywhere, and don't want to spend the money on the mount kit. This is a side project, and im 18 working part time going to college. Im not new to 240's though, have had 6 S13's. Currently own a 92 coupe(project) and a 95SE(daily rig). My last S13 was a SR swapped fastback and was sold to a member on here. I plan to do the swap myself, everything seems easy enough. The only thing keeping me from going and picking this motor up is the crossmember issue. IF you can use the stock one, what do you have to modify on it? How hard is it? I don't have the motor yet and don't plan to buy it till I figure this problem out. Or else I'd just go try and put it in and see for myself. Hell if it comes down to it i'll just make one, if modifying the KA one is that difficult/impossible.

and reading this thread. Says, he used the stock cross member and it was exactly the same. But others in the thread are saying one makes it sit 6-7 inches further. And I know this question has been asked a bazillion times. but no one tell me to search, i've searched, half of the stuff I find says its exactly the same, half of the stuff says no way it will work.

thanks for the sites, I really appreciate it, but its not what im looking for. Im trying to figure out why half the threads you find when you search the subject, all conclude that in some way shape or form you can use the KA crossmember, without buying a mount kit. I've seen threads from '02 and '03 where people have flat out said "I have an '89 with an RB20 and I used the KA cross member" That was not just one person either. But all in all, Im not buying mounts, if modification to the KA crossmember to make it work is not possible, and I can not find an R32 cross member, then I will make my own. Hopefully I'll have the motor in my garage this time next week, that will make things easier to figure out.

I've done the swap, more than once; you need custom/aftermarket mounts with the stock Xmember with the RB20. The mounting points just don't line up, and comparing pics of the 2 will show why.

Maybe they meant the transmission Xmember/mount?
