alright i have a rb20 in an s13 hatch, 1990 the shifter sat a little forward when i first bought it but not much, motor came in it, i sence then took the motor out and converted it to right hand drive, i put the motor in and now it seems thats the shifter sits to far forward now, everything is bolted up , im not sure what is happening, didnt mess with the mounts or anythnig, any ideas on how to fix it?, in 1st and 5th the shifter shaft hits the radio bezal/ shift boot bezal, let me nkow what you guys think it could be, t.i.a.

heres a pic, ps the dash is siting correctly inside the car, its bolted up.

thats the shifter placement in neutral, shifter is not backwards it is sitting in the trans as it should.

did you use a frame machine to hold the chassis in place when you did the rhd conversion and made sure to line everything up as per factory spec?

using a b&m shifter will help bring it back to center but it wont be 100%.its not noticable unless you really know what to look for.i dont notice it in my car.

If your shift levers (not sure haven't seen the 20 trans) like my RB25det. If you pull the circlip out you can spin the shifter around 180 degrees. I have done that on accident when putting my car back together. I am talking about the way the shifter sits in the shifter plate.

I dunno but I've heard that is supposed to happen when you use the R32 X-member.

Maybe before you didnt have the bezel in so you didn't notice 1st,3rd and 5th hitting.

I would Triple check that everything is in the right place and TIGHT. Then get the B&m Shifter and be done with it.

I had a similar problem when i had to do a KA trans with the RB bell. it hit but further back. What i did is cut the shifter and welded an extension to it . thats an easy fix. but try every thing mentioned first .....

Good Luck . and nice RHD .

Why would a short shifter eat up synchros? Unless someone thinks you don't have to clutch with a short shifter or something.

Also here's another way to mod the KA B&M to work. Simple if u know someone that can TIG.

Well ive just always heard that. Ive read that numerous times on numerous forums. Look around. My friend had one in his ka transmission and it destroyed 3rd and one of my buddies has a new mustang gt with a hurst and he has trouble getting it in gear sometimes higher up in the rev range. It doesnt feel bad but it takes a lot more effort than a stock rb shifter. i Shift mine with 2 fingers all day

I don't see how the other way is way easier. All you have to do my way is cut, weld, drill a few new holes and bam done. Cost me about $25 to get it welded and it works perfectly. No need to even pull the transmission but to each his own.

the other way is easier becuase all you have to do it drill a hole and bolt it on, no need to mangle the shifter plate, plus if u read the thread i want my shifter to sit back further lol
