So I get my gauges (def link II) all set up an installed, its an 89 240 w/rb20 as stated in the title.. and my oil pressure at idle is sitting at maybe 5-10 and with some gas gets up to around 40-45 .. I did some reading around, and found that i should be around 25-75 as a normal reading. I'm running 10w40.. obviously i checked the oil, reading just fine. I havent been able to identify an oil leak of any sort.. i'm not exactly sure whats going on... any help would be greatly appreciated... I find ALOT of my answers here, so I'm sure someone out there knows :D thanks again.

youve pretty much gone through the basics

sounds like low pressure because of a failing pump or spun bearing.

Check with a good quality mechanical test gauge (ie: snap on) and go from there.

the pump is new, its an oem pump.. guess its a spun bearing then. only other thing i was thinking, maybe theres some air somewhere? I mean, not sure if you, or anyone reading this, is/are familiar with the defi link sys, but you can record/playback what your gages are doing. anyways, i took it out again just a bit after posting. started up, idled around 20 for a minute, drove down the road, got up to 50 at around 5k and then back down to around 25. seems to be doing fine now? kind of throwing me off here.. one minute its low press, next its fine... so, is it possible theres some unwanted air in this mix somewhere?

edit : I recorded the readings and thats what it played back once i got back home.

ok this might be misinterpretation

start your car, right now. whats the pressure.

as it warms up, what is the pressure when it reaches operating temperature.

dont rev the engine, dont see what the range is. just idle.

theres no way around it. something is wrong

pump, bearings, etc.

pull the pan, check the pickup for debris. if it checks out, pull the pump and spec it also the bearing caps.

verify with another gauge before you do all that tearing apart. defi makes good stuff but who knows the sender could be bad or something

yea, gunna check before i do. went to the shop to install the rotors and check the pressure issue only to find the rotor shop didnt redrill my rotors.. so i didnt get anything done anyways, with it being sunday, no one is open to go get them redrilled, and i'd need to find somewhere to do it. so, ill just wait and check the pressure issue when i go in to do the rotors.. whenever i get them drilled. driving around today it was idling around 15-20 and under constant accel around 40-45.. some days it likes me, some days it doesnt.. heh
