HeyDoes anyone know what the stock Redline is on the RB20DET?

I saw online somewhere but i can't find it again some ecu that gets rid of the speed limiter, raises boost, changes fuel and timing curves and also raises the Rev limiter to 8800rpmNow can the stock valvetrain handle that??

Or would you have to change valves, springs and retainers and also get the solid lifters?

Thanks

8800 is really high, you would need some really big cams bigger than 272's. I would keep the max revs to 8200rpm.

Valvetrain should easily handle that, but as yellow said, who cares how high you can rev if you can't make power up there?

Stock is 8200??But since its turbo and the ecu is mapped to do thatWouldn't it still make power?Cause the turbo is still pushing air and the ecu is mapped for fuel and ignition up there.I dont know that's just what im thinking

Heh... the ECU has maps for 800 rpm too, but you wouldn't want to drive around at 800, would you? Yes, it will still "make power" up there, but it will have fallen so far off of the peak that an upshift would be more useful...

but how do Honda's do itI have a video of a guy in a civic si on a road course revving to 9000 he was never below 6000

If you have enough fuel and air and the timing isn't retarded too much, If you dont make anymore horsepower but at least would'nt you broaden the peak power band?

If he was revving to 9k, he probably had headwork, cams, and a new IM.

The factory rev limit is 7500 on the RB20. The reason why it won' make power all the way there without head work is because of the stock cams. If you look at a RB20 dyno graph or hell any car without "Vtec" the power starts to fall off around 5800-6500. Make more power on the top your goin to give up some down low.

GotchaYeah i just want a nice fat powerband and to extend it if i can.Cause i AutoX and i dont know about with the RB20 but i know with the SOHC KA, for most of the course's i was in 2nd gear and the occasional 3rd on the straight away'sBut with the RB20 it might be different though.

You said in a prior post that you would keep the Rev's around 8200. With a chip can i safely bring it up to that, and would it make power up there? If not do you know where it would make power safely?

im upgrading my head on my rb20.. noticed on my baseline dyno test the boost cuts off early anyway.. so i was thinking with the head built, can i set boost 2 stay in up2 8800rpm? would that work? so i can keep gaining power through out the power band

Bigger cams,Valve springs, port n polish and a good intake manifold will help you make more power on the top. If you want to rev it to 8800 get some good valve springs. . . Then again I'm not even sure if the oil pump will live at those revs. I haven't done any research on it. Try the AUS skyline forums they might know if the oil pump will live at those RPMS.

As for the oil pump you can get the RB26 N1 oil pumpAnd ive heard that you should upggrade to the RB26 Solid lifters
