rb20 racing and cooling

anybody have any recommendations on ways to cool a rb20 being used as a for road racing. i already know about the koyo rad and n1 water pump. any ducting suggestions hood modifications. i read the thread on just cooling suggestions already but it still kinda left me with a blank. thanks for your answers ahead of time

distilled water and water wetter in the rad. lower splash gaurd between the i/c and the rad support, good fans or stock fan with stock shroud, BLED cooling system!!!!!!!!!

i' ve never heard of water wetter in a rad what is that. and do u mean use distilled water instead of coolant or a mix of the two which i think u mean thanks for the reply

i run a triple core alloy race radiator with 2x blowing electric fans...no heater core conected and new waterpump/coolant/thermostat etc.i can sit my car on the spot in 3rd gear and do oz till the tyres pop and dont get any overheating wat so ever

water wetter is a coolant additive, its by red line. use distilled water b/c it is filtered and dosent have any minerals in it so it will not creat rust in your block/ rad. the n1 pump is a insurance for high rpm operation, nismo t stat and great fan are good insurance!

that radiator sounds pricey who is it made by. i think i might have to change my fans i have dual i think 12in chrysler fans with one sucking air out and one blowing air in. already have new prestone 50/50 just need the thermostat and rad i have dual core out of turbo probe that i custom fitted. not having any problems now just dont want to be a third lap dop out when the time comes. thats cool i learned something new today. ill go check out redline and also check out an n1 pump.

If you have pop up headlights, tests have shown that cooling panels do lower temps

im looking ino those now. now that i know their purpose i begin to surmise that they would be a very good addition for high speed racing

i got my radiator for about 300nzd wich i guess would be around200 american dolar...i dno tho....i also raised the bonnet drift style to lower the engine bay temp and to also let the hot air out...u put longer bolts in that hold the bonet on and space the hinge from the bonet to create a gap at the back not the front...seems to work quite good

i read that in the overheating rb write-up in the tech section. im gonna try that soon i just hope it doesnt disturb the aero

well ur not in a aero tunnel are u so i dont think raising the bonnet is gona affect ur aerodynamics

i was thinking more of making the car handle funny at higher speeds. seeing as when you raise the hood you kinda throw off the downward push on the front of the car. i would assume that the factoty ran it through some type of tunnel to see how the car cut through the wind

im just guessing that messing with the aero on the car could throw off high speed handling as much a horrible suspension set up. not trying to be a smart a** just a piece of info for ppl out there.

It is not ideal to have the rear of the hood raised, that is a high pressure area and will allow more air into the engine bay and under the car. However if your getting hot and have no other choice...

oil cooler is a must! im running a 2" koyo rad, great upgrade for track days!

+1... you'll notice your temps raise if not be higher during highway speeds (or faster salons) with the hood raised.

another +1 for an oil cooler on an rb20...out of all the rb engines the 20 will run the hottest for whatever reason, and lots of heat can be shaved from the engine just by fitting an oil cooler.numerous threads now on how to fit a cooler using new or junkyard parts and almost EVERYONE who has fitted one has benifited greatly.

it's probably because of the 3, the 20 didn't come with a factory cooler. the 25 and 26 has an oem oil to water cooler. also if you keep your power levels down, the motor will generate less heat.

an oil cooler really never crossed my mind. i dont know why i didnt think of that before thanks.
