Just picked up an intake manifold for my 20 today to help eliminate 3mile island of piping. The manifold is all set and ready for a Q45 throttle body. The person I picked the manifold up from had the Q45 TB, but not for sale. Taking a look at this thing, it's wayyy too big. My lil 20 does not flow enough to make this thing worth while (shutup Kamin/Joe ). Anyone with a 20 that is running a Q45 TB notice performance loss. What extra tuning needed to be done to get it to operate properly. TPS sensor...? I know it's common thing to do anymore because bigger is better right *(cough bs). I just don't understand it. I'm thinking of adapting my stock TB to the manifold, but I don't want to do this twice. Help me understand why I should use the Q45 TB. My first impression is that it's too big, and may possibly hinder performance. What am I missing? Educate me. Maybe I should stop drinking first. doh.

IMO the Q45 TB will likely flow more air than the head can. If you can find a Q45 TB for it, F-it, throw it on but I doubt that it's necessary.

you'll loose throttle response with the q45 which is why i opted to keep my stocker on the rips.

Im running the q45 on my 20 right now with an RBTally manifold/stock turbo/ full 3" exhaust boost is at 12psi without boost controller, and to tell you the truth its fun as hell, everyone says "oh it will be to big blah, blah blah" personally i think its great just do it and youll see what i mean... on another note, i never drove the 20 with the stock mani and tb so this is me comparing it to previous cars (this is the smallest turbo i have ever had btw) and one last ? for you... what does the person you bought it from say? did he like it, did he say the throttle response was bad?

Oh and quick engine bay shot of mine, hehe...

The stock throttle body is good to about 350-400 hp, it starts getting restrictive around 350, which is why people with larger turbos swap to the larger Q TB.

there's no point to running a stock turbo with a q45 throttle body, then use a reducer to a 2ish" pipe??? *confuse*

that's the same manifold I picked up. However your running the stock turbo, if not near stock size where as I don't boost till 4k with my t4 as is. I'm looking to lose some heat transfer increase efficiency with the shorter piping obviously but yeah looks as if a stock TB will be the way to go. I wouldn't doubt I'm pushing more air through my cylinders than you right now Joe, so PbbbbTttt!!!hahahaha good luck at the track this weekend man. Thanks for the input all
