I've been having a misfire problem for a while in my rb20 240, the exhaust was smokin, it was overheating and it had a truly painful misfire. I took it to a mechanic and i was told that it was two coil packs I had problems with. I went to the auto parts and bought the coil packs from a 94' Q45 (first two cylinders) and installed them. The car is almost completely rid of the misfire except for a faint misfire you can hear when it idles, and becomes more severe after boost hits around 8psi. I was told it may be dirty spark plugs or gapping, so I'm going to clean the plugs and gap them to .8mm today, is that a good idea? Have any of you had a similar problem?

Bah, I just spent half the day removing the plugs, regapping them and cleaning them, and guess what? Nada, even though the gaps were at .40 and I put them down to .33, the car still sounded the same. But, all is not lost.Afterwards in disappointment I lifted the hood while the car was on and started fiddling with some cables. One point I fiddled with one of the harnesses for the igniter and VOILA, the car sounded clean as a whistle. Did it again and back to bad, so tommorow I'm rewiring the harness and my problem should be gone for good!
