Whats up ONE, i picked this car up about 5 months ago completely bone stock with the KA in it and all, its a 91 hatch, had about 170,000 on it. i ripped the ka out about 4 months ago and sold it off, got a pair of ebay lowering springs (will do until coilovers) and a CXRacing exhaust, rear strut bar and Megan Racing bucket seats. I was working hard to get the money for a sr20 so i picked up a cxracing intercooler and radiator and samco radiator hoses but ended up changing my mind and going with an RB20 which i picked up about a month ago, heres some pics of the process. Car is gonna be painted Brickyard Red

Knockoff vertex body kit came in about a week ago

ok.
yea i got the zerolift kit because my wallet was making me look away from syko. lol
but from the looks of it,
mckinney, top hat, and zerolift all share the same basic design.
but yea.
how are the rb motor mounts working with your mckinney kit?

those mounts don't look very sturdy to me. you could had saved a ton of cash using a r32 or cefiro crossmember. and they would last longer, plus there oem so you can't go wrong.

they don't but from reviews and the fact that mckinney mounts tend to be used quite often, i'd say they hold up just fine.

I wanted to use the syko kit for many reasons including the fact that it utilizes the skyline x-member.
but the price tag was not in my ballpark so i had to settle for something cheaper.

and by only using the skyline crossmember, the motor will sit high and forward.
preventing a flush fitting, unmodified hood.
as well as the shifter being located an inch or so forward of the stock location.

haha they dont look sturdy cause I didnt torque them fully down, just got them on there because once you sit it on the mounts you have to wiggle around for fitment and then decide where you want it, then torque them down.

I lol'd when I saw you painted HKS on the CX racing intercooler. Looks good so far, just don't cheap out on too much. When you said ebay springs.... what ones? Please don't say coilover sleeves

touche.
the one i have is out of an r33 and the motor sits too high as the hood will not come down all the way (even unbolted it wont reach the latch) and the shfiter sits forward to the point where (yes, it's auto for now) if i was to put the car in Neutral, it would be in Reverse, and i was unable to put it into Park or 2nd (can't remember which) because the shifter sits too far forward.
(btw the auto is in temporarily, thats what came with the motor and i will be doing a vg 5sp swap sometime in the near future :gapteeth: lol)

you are supposted to use a R32 x member for it to fit. and you need to make sure it's from a gts and not a gtr (some sellers will get it mixed up). but there are many people using the oem x member without a hitch..

Thats weird that you had to bang the firewall in for an RB20. Mine slid in perfectly. Just gotta put a movable jack under the transmission (right under shifter).

Ive heard so many different things about the fitment but it ended up that my starter was legit up against the firewall preventing me from letting the motor mounts line up so i tapped it out alittle bit, and its funny, i got my motivation for my color scheme from your motor haha looks great dude

Have been really busy with work and school in the last 3 months, haven't made alot of time to be on the forums other than buying and selling so I wanted to update you guys on the swap. First off, in the picture you can tell, i put coilovers on it :) Godspeed coilovers, very cheap, $500, and the height is adjustable, with camber adjust and all, they look legit, this is a picture with the motor out of the bay and look how low it is still. Second off, I got everything I need for the motor to go in except the upper harness, im waiting on that from my wiring man, I just have to make the trip up to get it and I haven't had time in the last week. New spark plugs in, oil, transmission oil, all that. Swap is feeling really close, might have to take off a week of work and finally finish it. Also picked up a bee-rev which will be lots of fun. Body wise, the whole body kit is on the car, mounted and is being bondo'ed and molded to right angles, turns and nooks & crannies. I picked up a pair of Rota P45Rs, currently need to sell my 4 lug drilled and slotted rotors and spacers so i can pick up new 5 lug rotors and brake pads cause I bought an Ichiba 5 lug swap. Thats pretty much all the news I got for ya'll so heres a picture to leave your mind wandering.
