ok so im thinking of buying a rb20 and i know about the crank issue....

now i was wondering how many of you guys fixed this issue before installing your mtoor?

how many of you didnt

how many people with rb20s have had this issue??

whats the average cost for getting the collar installed.

if i were to buy a mtoor and if the cranks collar was in healthy shape .. and i was to install a new oil pump would it hold up to drifting as that is what i sue the car for??? id really like to fix the issue but as the build will already be talling up to 3k plus i dont really wanna havta shell out another 500-1000 for a collar and machine work plus a rebalance of the engine..

what do you guys think...

whyd nissan have to make this mistake what were they thinking.....

fixing the crank collar issue shouldnt be anymore than 200-250$ imho including labour and collar.the shop that fitted my collar charged me 50$ (collar was about 130$) to do so, reballance may not be neccicary as it is so close to the centerline of the crank.

ok, I bought a rb20det from Osaka in canada, it costed me $1200, they sent me the wrong ecu, two times and then I had to go on my own and buy a ecu that would work, ecu harness plug was damaged so I had to repin the plug to another one they sent me...I replaced the tbelt and the water pump, thats all I did oh and the clutch of course, after that my mother runs great, no crank issues oh and a friend bought another engine set from osaka and he received the wrong trans, but osaka sent him the right one later, the point is you can get a rb20 from osaka for a good price, but you'll be taking a chance, by the way that price included shipping. Hope this helps and if you can discribe that crank issue I would appreciate it.

i just did the usual maintenance on mine- t-belt, tensioner, clutch etc. for all the trouble and expense of fixing the crank collar its not worth it when you can get a whole long block for like 500

at the current past and present cost of RB20's I've never done any maintenance on my 20 other than oil changes and coolant flush. I have a spare longblock sitting on an engine stand in case the worst should happen. Run it till it pops, learn for myself instead of internet knowledge, put in a new one.... have a fun day. I've never replaced a t-belt, t-stat, drive belt, or water pump in the 4 years I've had my 20.

if it aint broke.....

the crank collar issue becomes more apparent in a track setting, where there will be oil surge as well as extended high rpm use.some 20's live forever some pop...just the way it goes.
