Hey, I have an Inline-5 now, and its driving me crazy. My car runs incredibly rich, even after I tried running the stock fuel pump nstead of the GT-R unit. Also its sputtering and bogging pretty much all the time, a DEFINITE miss on one cylinder.

OK, what Ive done so far is pull all the plugs and coils (all the pugs were black as hell, prolly from running super freakin rich all the time), checked the injectors for leaks and checked the ecu for codes.

So I cleaned the plugs really well and tested em all, they all spark fine. Also tested all the coils and they are sparking fine. Also didnt notice any injector leaks or smell gas with the fuel pump on and the motor not running. The ECU threw a weird code (#21, no ignition signal to the ECU) but once I reset the ECU it showed 55.

One last thing, the car runs awesome for about 20 minutes in the morning, seems to only mess up when its at normal Op. Temp.

SOOOOO, what are my options? Could it be a bad sensor which is putting me in limp mode (Im thinkin coolant temp or something)? What about a timing issue? I never really timed the motor and I dont have a timing light so Id have to get one and do that, but if it only happens when its hot would that be the case or what?

Also, what about bad wiring somewhere? Whats up with that code #21, anyone diagnosed problems from that before?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well if your plugs are all black I would replace them. I had 2 cylinders misfiring. I replaced all the spark plugs and 2 coil packs and the ignitor chip and still had it misfiring on one. One of the injectors was actually clogged. First I would replace you plugs. If it still misses make sure its not your ignitor chip. Then throw some sea foam in there they might clean out your injectors. Hell the guy that fixed mine tapped on the injector with a screw driver and hammer. If you are running rich you should get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and you can bump the pressure down 3-5psi which the walbro raises it. I would also check timing as you suggested mine was retarded like 5 degrees.

Did you try another MAF sensor? or check for vacume leaks? did you pull the rail off and try to start the car to see how they squirted?

sounds like the ect sensor is on its way out, when they die they do it slowly and sporadicaly.try replacing that and see if it helps its proly pulling timing and adding fuel because it doesnt know how hot the engine is.

Hey skillz...

I had a similar problem. I had two bad coil packs. They worked fine at first.. at cold temp... but when they heated up they would crap out on me. I also had a bad wire harness from the ignitor to the coils.

Imma try new coil packs tomorrow, and also check for a clogged injector or something.

Whats the ECT sensor Carl? Never heard of it, is it that one next to the coolant temp sensor right after the upper rad hose?

Also, gonna time it to OEm specs and see if that evens it out. I tried a new MAFS and it didnt do anything, also my EManage is reading voltage fine from my MAFS now so Im sure its good. Could it be something that #21 code it was throwing?

Gawd I hate diagnosing problems, OBDII ownz me

I'm having the same problem with my harness going to the coil packs. Where did you get another harness or did you just repair the harness that you have???

I got a new one. I am not very good with soldering and fixing wires.

I actually wound up getting 2 new ones.

I have a spare now if you want it. It does have a broken clip on it so you have to attach each of the three wires directly to the terminal of pack #3. But it works well. Free if you want it... just pay for shipping. i can take a pic also if you want.

Shahee... did you ever get the wiring that I send you?

I had the hardest time with that. I must have written down your addy wrong so it came back to me. I shipped it again early last week, so you have gotten it by now. Just wanted to make sure.

Hope it works out for you.

Ok fellas i am having the same exact problem. Just an fyi. Checked injectors had them cleaned and tested. Then checked all coil packs and watched for spark. Also used a noid light to check on the ecu pulse signals to the injectors and coil packs. Also, checked the CAM ANGLE SENSOR and maf with good results.

I checked the timing belt and and found that my exhaust cam and intake cam were 1 tooth off. So it's at a shop right now getting a new timing belt and getting aligned. I'll have results by monday if all cylinders are hitting. This is the only thing i can think off besides changing the head gasket. I have literally checked every wire in the igniton system and fuel system all grounds and ohmed out all sensors to find that it's all within tollerance. Soo if you gentlemen need more assistance with this issue plz email me at [email protected]

I find that i'm an expert at wiring these damn harness' correctly.

Good... glad you finally got it.

It came back to me the first time because I think I mixed up the address somehow.

I put two harnesses in there for you. THe one with the broken clip is the one that works. I threw the other one in there because it has good clips, so if you wanted to solder on a new clip you could. I am not that good with a soldering iron, so I didn't try it.
