yea sorry long title. anway i got my rb20 on a engine stand and i was going to take my oil pan off and dent out the big dent on the bottom. plus i just wanted to check it out underthere while im doing everything else to it at the moment. my question is becuase a friend of mine who has a sr said to check cause he ran into this problem. If i turn the motor upside down am i going to have to re-bleed the lifters, or will it be ok? I know it dosen;t have the same type of head that the SR20 does but im new to the rb motors so im not sure exactly how that works. hopefully someone can share some input. thanks!

there are 2 types of lifters in the RB20's depending on which one you got.

If your buckets(Lifters) have a hole in the center they are hydraulic and need to submerge in oil until you get the motor running. If your just doing a basic swap then don't worry about it and just run the car for 15 minutes on the first start, that should work out the air.

It will sound like ticking from the head when you start it and it's scary to listen too. But it should get quieter and quieter as it warms up. That what the FSM says to do. I like to submerge them in oil and stick something in the hole on the top so I can push the lifter from the bottom, do this on all 24. Sounds fun doesn't it. HTH

If your luck you have solid lifters and you don't have a hole on the top of the bucket. there is no worry about bleeding here.
