Info: RB20 into an 89 S13

OK, b4 flaming sets in, I searched high and low, and came up with some good info. Thing is, I dont know if it is because I have a A31 motor or not, but none of the plugs, connectors, or wire colors match up. Well, I shouldnt say none, the KA harness plugs do :)

Soooo, here is my dilema: what do I need to do to get power to the engine harness? I am running the KA lower harness to the starter (constant power), running the KA lower harness to the alternator (switched power), and both of these to the battery (effectively using the lower KA to run the engine power).

Now, what do I need to power on the RB ECU? I am pretty clear on the fuel pump (pink wire on the small RB connector by the ECU), but thats it. I have the rb motor harness on the motor, and running into the firewall.

Can someone PLEASE help me wire my car. I checked out the wiring diagrams posted here, couldnt decipher what I needed. I understand this is the "easy" swap, so I feel like a bonehead to say the least. Someone please help me out.

Well, I took a good, long look at the RB harness today, and found one of the two plugs I need. It is the one with the black/red, white/purple, white/black wires, on the same line as the MAF and O2 wires. Im clear on where these go, but I cant find the other plug I need (Im going off of the write up that says "find two RB plugs, one with 6 wires and one with 8").

I also found the KA plug with the white and black/yellow wires, so all Im missing is that one plug.

One more thing, the ECU relay (green plugs inside the car), I have the plugs on the EFI harness, and thats its. I dont have whatever they are supposed to plug into. :( Please tell me this wont kill my swap.

Ok, you don't need the 8 wire plug because you're using the KA lower harness, Start with the 6 plug harness, cut the plug off, you only need 3 wires from this,

start with the white/purple on the RB harness, run it to the white wire coming off the ignition 30 amp fuse from the fuse box, pull the box apart, make sure you find the right white wire from the fuse, then splice the white/purple wire into that white wire.

Next the 2nd Rb wire on the 6 plug, black/red, find the KA gray oval plug, near where your battery was, cut the old KA plug off, leave avout 6 inches, and connect the rb wire to the black/red ka wire

Next the 3rd rb wire, white/black, connect it to the white wire on the same KA plug.

Last, the brown ka plug next to the gray oval KA plug, run a wire from the black/pink wire on the plug and splice the wire into the black/pink wire at the ecu.

This will get your RB20 started, it worked on our 90 model today with the earlier Rb20. That should be it man, if you need any help you can call us at the shop, 678 770 4516.

If anyone thanks we're missing something feel free to correct us.

Awesome man, thanks a bunch. I should have it done tomorrow then. ANy tips on the Green relay plugs? Im kinda sketched about those.

Again, thanks for the help. This is a lot easier than I thought it would be. I can picture all these wires in my head, and it'll take me about 10 minutes to get them all connected.

Im doing the rest of the wiring today, namely the plugs mentioned above and the fuel pump. Should be firing it up later on tonight.

What about the green relay plugs? I dont have the second piece, only have the two plugs from the ECU.

OK, wiring is done, it took me about 10 minutes, and Everything seems to be good. The motor cranked, but didnt turn over, and the ECU had switched power, and read 55, so thats good. I didnt have the MAF hooked up, any of the IC piping connected, no vacuum lines done, or the O2 sensor mounted, so its no wonder it just cranked. Imma check the fuel pump, the relay "click", and spark today, and then finsih up all the stuff I mentioned above.

Two questions actually:

OK, on the ECU there is one black/pink wire (with wide grey stripes), but on the cluster plug there are two (wide stripes and thin stripes). I guessed and hooked the fuel pump wire up to the wide-stripe wire, since it hit the ecu. Was this correct?

Second question, I hooked the upper fuel line, coming FROM the filter up to the upper fuel line nipple, going to the FPR. This seemed logical to me, but Im reading that the upper goes to lower on the engine, is that true?

Thanks guys, you have no idea how stoked I was to see the wiring went well, and itsw largely from help I got on this site. You guys rock.

The fpr is at the front of the engine. This would of course be the return line. fpr is always on return line.
