rb20 in s13 charging problems

i cant figure out for the life of me why my alternator isnt charging my battery. if i unplug the battery while the car is running it dies. im ready to drive this car farther away from home than what i have been.

its a auto to manual converted s13 vert. ive been searching but no hope

here is how i have them hooked up

1 battery2 misc plugs by fuse box3 starter4 grounded to chasis5 alternator plugs6 not hooked up7 oil plug

RE-build your alternator or upgrade to the Quest alternator (not a direct bolt in) or buy a used alternator

I have the same problem you do, I went to the junkyard and got a Quest unit for cheap.I haven't put it in yet, but I took it to Autozone right after I left the junkyard and it tested good.

the swap is only a couple of months old. it usually just sits in the garage. its never been driven more than 5 houses down the road.

do you think maybe my motorset came with a bad alternator?

It's definitely a possibility, RB20s are getting pretty old. If it ends up being bad you should just upgrade to a quest alt.

With the lower harness you can't hook it up wrong unless you start cutting things.

so today i realize my car starts with no starter relay connected

so i made a little video going over the wiring. any ideas.

im probably gonna pull off my alternator to have it tested if its bad ill just have to do the quest upgrade.
