No, use DOHC tach or get a SARD STACK (lol). Factory S13 clusters wont work without adjusting the potentiometer inside of it. Its a waste of time unless you're 100 percent lucky and it happens to be 100 percent accurate.

check this out... its for converting SOHC tach to DOHC

http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=272023

not sure if it works or not... ive also heard of the 10k ohm resistor mod to convert from 4cyl tach to 6cyl tach zerothread?id=341788

might want to look into that too. maybe you do both modifications if you swap from 4 cyl sohc -> 6cyl dohc

ill have this problem to deal with in a few weeks here

Question:Can you use a aftermarket tach with the RB, without a tach adapter???

I have a DEFI Stepper tach that I connected to the wire in the little canister under the hood. And I got not a movement from the tach. The tach works but It didn't budge.

I'm not sure if I lost my tach signal or if I need a tach adapter.

PS. not meaning to steal your thread. But this maybe an option for you.

But if you run a R32 cluster you have to run the RB20det Speed sensor which is driven by a speed cable, so you would have to route that cable into the back of the cluster.. I would just go with a S13 DOHC tach and have Carl H adjust it.

I think ive seen people put the r32 tach in the s13 cluster. Either way though Carl H's way is probably the cleanest looking.

tach was verified on my own car, check your wiring.it read accurately to 7.5k, so i know it is not the tachometer.

I got the tach to work, for some reason the wire thats goes to the gauge is messed up.... I clipped off the wire where it plugs up to the gauge then wired another wire from the ecu to the gauge and it works....

That is exactly how mine is. Swapping the tach from the skyline cluster to the 240 cluster is not hard at all. It is a direct replacement. hardest part is just pulling the cluster apart, even that is not hard.

The skyline tachs face plate is a little bit smaller than the 240's, light from the clusters backlight shines around the tach but that can be fixed with a bit of ingenuity. Also, you will have to cut the skyline tachs face plate in the clock area in order for the clock to show.
