Rb20 in 240 problems

I have had this 240 for some time and just recently swapped a rb20det into it. I took it for a test drive after the swap and realized the water pump was bad and my engine over heated and blew the HG. I then swapped the head gasket for a cometic mls and replaced the water pump. Now it jerks back and forth at anything over 25% throttle. I figured it was the coils gone bad so I bought some yellow jacket coil packs. Put them in and the problem continues. One of my friends told me the timing could be off so just adjust it at the CAS by turning it left or right. I took the bolts out and did this but now it won't even fire... I am certain it is a timing issue but have never dealt with timing before any help would be greatly appreciated.
