Hey guys I made the mistake of purchasing the wrong year harness for my Rb, I was noticing the plugs are all different, but as i was looking i noticed the wiring is still pretty much the same, for ex. plugs that have three wires on the original harness still have 3 wires on the new harness, just a different plug. Now my question is, since I have the original harness with all the plugs, is it all just a matter of switching the plugs or is it just not that easy?

Thanks in advance.

depends...
if it is a silvertop rb20 there are 3 primary variants: early r32, late r32, and ceffiro/laurel

the ceffiro/laurel can have square connectors for some of the sensors and drivers (such as cas and ignitor) while the r32 is mostly rounded bits.
some r32 sensors are square depending on the year, but mostly limited to the water temp sensor.

if you have a redtop engine, in short...you are fubared.
there are SO MANY VARIANTS on the redtop engines based on engine management, year and types of sensors that it could be equipped with that it is hard to say where to start.

It would honestly be easier to source the correct harness for the engine than it would be to splice plugs as you would need to find a donor harness for all the correct plugs which can prove to be a PITA.

Thanks for the info, I have found my engine to be from a cefiro, and made the mistake of ordering an r32 harness.. from your info above does that mean the only difference between orig harness and new harness are plugs?

And if so Are the pin layouts the same? I would really like to know because i still have the original harness with all the plugs on it, Im just wondering if i can swap the plugs and be ok.

you could do that but that is a lot of cutting and splicing... increases the chance for wiring errors and poor operation.
ideally you should source a ceffiro harness.
is the ceffiro harness cut up?
if not it can still be converted to work with your swap...ive done several of them now.

Sad to say i let a friend of mine... who "went to school for this" try and wire it up.. needless to say the cefiro harness is destroyed..

I appreciate your help.. Any ideas on where to look for a cefiro harness? I know i can search aimlessly but maybe with your experience maybe you ha e came across a source?

Im gonna need to get rid of the R32 harness now.. From what you say theres no point in haveing a novice try and rewire it?
