Hey guys so i was on my way home from the store and as i was getting into town i was coming up on a stop light and popped it into nuetral and it went to idle and lobed for a sec then died and my check engine light came on. i turned the key and it fired right up, so i pulled into the gas station and noticed and low rpms it started making this god awful noise my best way to describe the noise is it sounded like grinding/metal on metal rubbing. there is no knocking. but under a load just driving normaly the noise isnt there but as soon as i let off the throttle its back or idle its there. the motor has about 700 miles on it since i rebuilt it and its been running good till tonight. it sounds like its coming from the front of the motor but then it sounds like its coming from the head. any ideas what i should start with? i need help asap due to this being my only transpertation right now. :squint: any help will be muchly apriciate

i just pulled my motor apart to where i can see the tensionor and idler pully and noticed the timing belt was really loose and i could wiggle it back and forth on the cams so i checked the idler pully and it feels like it seized up i cant move it at all with my finger. the tensioner i can so im sure thats what happend and caused it to drag down the motor. im waiting for a friend to bring over his aircompressor so i can pull the crank pully off and make sure it didnt go out of timeing and reset the timing as well. so i hope that fixes it. but would that explain the odd noise?

ok i fixed the problem the stud that the tensioner pully goes on snapped in the block i got it out and replaced it. now i have had another issue for a while and i cant figure it out import shops around my house have no idea either maybe someone else can help me. my timing belt scoots way back toucing the back plate behind the cam gears i havnt seen any RBs doing this so im not sure if its comon or not. any ideas? is there schims behind the cam gears that im missing or something?

There isn't anything on the upper part of the engine to keep it aligned on the teeth. It's the two shims on the crank snout that keep it from moving forward or back. If they are installed and your belt is still drifting around, I would look at the tensioner or idler bolt/stud to make sure they are straight and square with the block. If they are bent, it would make the belt want to wander around prematurely.

If the entire belt stays on the pulley, then I don't think you have much to worry about. If it begins to hang off the front or back of the pulley, them something isn't right.

My HKS belt stays centered when turning by hand. It likes to ride to the front of the pullies when I test turned the crank without the crank pulley holding those shims against the crank sprocket. After shoving the pulley on and torquing the bolt down, it preferred more center and never drifted around.

Make sure the tensioner is resting against the block, there's a few spacers and washers so they might be out of order. Or maybe theres something behind the tensioner holding it out.
