I'm pulling the flywheel to go get it resurfaced. Are these things (six bolts holding the flywheel on) reverse threaded, or just very difficult to get off? I have one ratchet stabilizing the flywheel so the engine won't turn, and I have the other on the bolt and I'm whacking at it with a hammer. I'm guessing they're just normal bolts and I should just keep whacking away until they come off, but I wanted to ask. How did you guys go about taking the flywheel off? Are there any precautions or extra steps I should take? I'll take any info I can get :) thanks.

Never mind, I got it off. Nothing a little WD-40 and some elbow grease couldn't fix :)

While I'm on the subject though, I may as well ask about lightweight flywheels. I've seen some between 9 and 11 pounds from JUN and Ogura Racing Clutch for around $350 or so (at TakaKaira), which doesn't seem too bad. And, if I were going to go with a lightweight flywheel, now would be the time to install it (with the engine out of the car).

My question is, is it worth the money at this point? It's a street car, I won't be racing with it, and the only mods I'll have on it once I get it driving are basic things (new OEM 300ZX clutch, exhaust/DP, springs/shocks, tires, turbo timer, ~10 psi). Would it be worth it to me to spend ~$400 total on a flywheel? Does it really make that much of an improvement on the way the car drives?

it will make your car rev quicker, drop revs quicker, and free up some power.

but on the flip side, in a street driven car it will make the car use a little more gas on the highway because the flywheel doesnt have the same inertia and will require a little more throttle to hold a constant speed, especially up hills.

its a give and take. its fine for street use, but not really as useful as if it was a race only car.

Yeah, that's about what I was thinking. Seems it'd be more useful to put the ~$400 towards an intercooler, or a brake upgrade, or some sway bars, or wheels, or.......

Thanks for the info :)
