Just got all my wiring bugs worked out and am trying to fig out the last few bumps.

For one if i turn key off it keeps running and if I pull off the bat. terminal it just keeps running for more than a minute I have to dump clutch to kill it. I even pulled off a wire (risky i know) and no spark. Kind of scary didnt know an engine could diesel for that long.....

I checked ignition timing and i think i got it set close turn cas till was on 4th mark at idle. 15 BTDC

Im going finish hooking up my fuel psi gauge tomarrow way to rich hopefully. Doesnt seem to be running too hot gauges all look good. My mech one is reading way to low maybe bad spot (installed it teeing off hose running across intake side of block above oil sensor. No OTHER SPOTS... any ideas.

Well if you disconnect the battery the alternator will keep the engine going.

What wire did you disconnect???Or did you switch to waste spark with plug wires.

I would hop on a Leak down tester. And do a leak down on your motor.Because your rings might getting some major blow by.Either that or your injectors are sticking open and you wired the car wrong.Or even worse and you have hot spots in your cylinders.

I don't recommenced this. The battery acts as sort of a voltage regulator. the alternator alone could potentially mess up some electronics.

I'm not telling him to do this.

I'm just letting him know why the car still runs even with the battery off.

Also the alternator has its own voltage regulator. The battery only acts as a reserviour. (to my knowledge. I'm no electrical engineer)

the alternator will not keep the engine running with the battery disconected.....with no - earth the alternator will not charge / feed nething with voltage....when a car is deiseling it is normally not running off spark but running off hot carbon wich is igniting.......the engine must have some crazy carbon build up in the ports or in the combustion chamber of the head or something along the lines

The car really will run on only the alternator.

Go try it.Seriously.That's the ghetto way to see if your alternator is bad. If the car wont run, then you gotta change you alternator. If it does then your alternator is at least putting out enough for the engine.

how will the ecu get voltage if the circuit is incomplete .....................think for a second...................................

I figured it out again guys my ecu is staying on and so is my ignition circuit. I have no idea how to cure this problem i guess im back to a wiring error. I check for spark again and i guess i got lucky the first time. For now ill dump it.

Can someone explain how to pull codes out of the ecu in simpler steps than the fsm..... Maybe that will point me in the right direction.

turn key on 2 "on"..turn the dial right around.wen it flashes mode 3 turn the dial back the other way and then the codes will flash at u

and if the ignition and ecu are staying on then its not dieseling lol.dieseling is wen u turn the key off and it stops and then starts running backwards and the fuel gets ignited off the carbon...normally this will only occur on a carburetored engine

running backwards? what?

dieseling is when ignition has been shut off and the car continues to run. USUALLY this is caused by leaky injectors.

umm ok have u never seen a car diesel backwards before???? u take the piss outa me about something u know nothing about u ****???

i just explained how it works...and thus is very bad for motor because the oil pump sucks all the oil back outa the galleries and it is still running....

trust me wen a carburettor car diesels it runs backwards....try it urself...wen it deisels put it in 1st and dump the clutch and watch ur car go backwards

99% of the time when a vehicle diesels it continues to spin in its normal rotation because it never fully STOPS. and we arent talking about a carbeurated car we are talking about a RB.

and a vehicle WILL run without the battery positive cable connected but it is bad for the electronics.

and yes i know absolutely nothing. this coming from the guy who SWORE up and down that a stock regulator will not cause fueling issues with a large pump then 1 WEEK LATER does a complete flip flop in another thread. also from the person that thinks anything over 14.7 is lean and anything under is rich.

Sorry guys no dieseling issue.. i pull wire for eccs relay and killed it. Now why would turning key to off position not turn off ignition and ecu beats me. I think to turn engine off it kill power to ground side of coil so one wire is wired wrong?

Both of you could possibly right on that one. I would have to see one go backward to believe that but that seems perfectly possible.

definition of diesel is something like "engine runs after ignition has been disabled direction is never mentioned." and is ignited by anything from carbon build to too hot a plug to bugs haha.

.... didnt see that arguement coming forums are FUNNY!!! (yet extremely helpful in second hand knowledge and experience) =learn what everyone else did wrong so you dont!!

Again spreading misinformation = BAD

People repeat things they've heard (right or wrong) and others see it and do the same.Especially if it comes from a reputable source, such as NICO.And if its posted multiple times.

If your not 100% sure, but wanna add a comment. Just tag on a IIRC or not 100% sure.

+1 on Joe.99% of dieseling is in the same direction, because the engine never stops.

Now if you are going the other direction, you've got a BIG problem.Pistons,Rods,Bearings and lube system wont be too happy about that. (pretty much the whole engine)

No insult intended, maybe you have a turbo timer hooked up somewhere in there that is keeping the car on? Maybe it fell under the dash? Or maybe a short.

I have a problem ( well, not a problem, it happened this way and i kept it as a failsafe) that after i turn my engine off, if my AC is on, the fans all keep turning (so i can use my fans to cool down an engine incase i need to work on it.so, i would say poss 2 wires got placed/shorted together. say maybe a constant +12 onto a switched 12v. therefore keeping powere going to the ecu so it thinks the power is still oming from the ignition or the like?

No turbo timer at all I WISH that would be an easy fix. Still trying to fig. it out if I Disconnect the relay for the eccs it kills it so I think im on to it. That is probly not a very good idea but had to try it. For now 2nd gear dump haha.

Rob, i had this same exact problem when i first swapped the motor in. The problem i was having however was that the motor would stay running after i cut the key off and the ecu would stay on.

What fixed it, however, was just luck. I didnt know that the ecu was continuously on and it drained the battery. I hooked up a battery charger to the car fired it up and the problem never happened again. Try resetting the ecu just for giggles. Good luck!
