Ive helped on 3 diff rb20 swaps locally and they all went mckinney including me. one of the cars was in an accident that tweaked the front frame a bit but it still fits with the mounts. dont let the website or even instructions that come with them since there are a ton of typos fool you, mckinney is not to be look down upon

this could be something to expect:
HxC_Nismo wrote:i have mckinney mounts and my shifter is slightly towards the passenger side also but it was because the engine was slightly tilted towards the passenger side so i had to use a shim to level the engine out to get the shifter to move towards the center more but its still not 100% in the center but the driveshaft angle is where its supposed to be and i never had any bad vibrations up to 160mph+, so you might have to shim the motor mounts and make sure the oil pan is level with your cross member.
still don't know people worship mckinney's so much; it has its own flaw. there was a time when their mount just split in 1/2. not sure if it's fixed yet but i hate to have my motor drop down while on a highway. to me crossmember is the best.

this may be a nub question but i was under the impression that you still needed a cross member with the mounts either way dont you re-use the 240 unit ?? Or should i be looking into a r32 cross memeber ?? i would still need modified mounts to get the engine to sit right in there though wouldant i ??

I got an r32 crossmember, mine dropped straight in with no hood closing problems. (Besides the fact I had the bolts on the top on 1 side of the engine bay, but that got resolved in no time...)

if you get custom mounts, you would be using the stock 240's crossmember.

when i say using cross-member instead of custom mounts, i was referring to using the RB's cross-member.

We have changes supplier of our poly-urethane mounts and have slotted the trans mount in both direction to allow greater fitment . we listen to all imput from our customers and make changes to the kits when we can. We have added many changes that have been suggested by our customer over the 10years we have been building the RB mounts. We strive to provide the best fitment and highest quality possible, All our kits work with the stock 240SX crossmember

i knew about the cross member being ok for the 240 one are you saying that if i used a r32 cross member i would not have to buy a kit ?? at all ?? because that would be sweet i dont like the idea of another place for something to break

I have both the old black McKinney mounts for my rb26 and the new blue ones for my rb20. I have seen McKinney's mounts come a long way sense he first made them. He stands behind his product. I so hope he will once my 26 rips his old set of isolators in 2. But ill send them in and ill get the new improved set he has now. Its too bad I've never drove my 26 when it was running. Just dyno time then it got tore out to be beefed up. The new blue sets he has out now are a very good set of mounts. Its a business that stands behind the stuff he sells. He likes it when you inform him of flaws in his product. His mounts have come a long way from what they use to be and look really reliable now to me if you get the new set. I have not used any other set of mounts so I cant compare them to other brands.

i got the tophat this is my 2nd time using them, i love having the best and most expensive stuff but i also love eating three times a day and yadda, the i may talk a lot of **** about the tophat but they r OK, i dont like how the bolt is pressed into the isolator, but unless u make assload of HP its not an big issue, hmm i did have a problem with the transmission xmember and it was a machining error and Mike the owner is going to send me a replacement for free, what else, for me 240sx xmember is a major plus !! i will say i do like McKinney styling better and i think they r beefey, i just wish they were more in my price range (this is coming from a guy whom has wasted like 2k in mistakes when purchasing stuff)

Im getting rid of my top hat mounts and going with the new company Rockus mounts. I'll pair it up with nismo mounts and call it a day. I think the motor and transmission will be better then it is now. I can feel it move around too much.

I would say I'm more qualified for this discussion. I started my swap with the Tophat mounts 1st. I had a real hard time getting all the bolts into the trans member. Then I switched to the Mckinney mounts and found it moved the motor back more than the Tophats did. I did the mount swap with the motor still in the car so I had a hell of a time hammering out the firewall for the starter hump. The differnce in the mounts blew me away, The Tophats were very thin vs the Mckinney.

dont have any fitment issues with the r32 x member... no starter bang out, your turbo elbow clears the steering column.. the auto trans x member bolts right up.... :-)

I made my own.... took some 3/16 plate, buttressed out from the existing pads on the 240 x member... my motor came with the factory mounts and rubber isolators on it.... trans x-member i used the 240 and plated back from the existing mount.... rb20det into '90 s13...

couldn't justify half as much for mounts as i paid for the engine to begin with....haha

So im retarded today Im a MMA Fighter and i just got done sparing (think somthing got knocked loose ) but did you mean that if i used the r32 x member then i dont have to buy a mount kit cause that would be FTW seriously im not stocked about spending 300 for mounts or so and i think that way i could get nicer actual engine mounts like the nismo set instead of some cheap spongy aftermarket garbage it makes more sense to me to have as few links in the chain as possible ya know ?? haha i just found the Emote button
