Rb20 crankshaft timing gear quesion

Hey guys long story short my crankshaft timing gear is in backwards the timing notch is facing towards the crank I got the timing all set and don't really need that mark I'm just wondering is that ok to keep it that way?

in theory it should be fine...but best to reassemble as you found it, prevents confusion and also the gear has probably been worn in a bit and it may not drive properly.

i would but now i cant get it off without doing damage and i really dont wanna do that, the shop that did the rebuild had to break it in half to get it off so i got a new used one i guess ill know when i start it up

Is the gear symmetrical? I haven't seen one in years. If it is and it's not offset goofy I think it will be just fine.

Yea it's symmetrical i think it will be fine I read through the service manual and it doesn't say anything about it going on only one way

That's because anyone paying attention would have put the timing mark out. Regardless I wouldn't tear it back apart for that.

To other people that make the same mistake no it doesnt matter which way it goes on, my car started up and is running great after the build even with the gear turned around the wrong way

I dont know if I would trust a shop that doesn't know what side of the came gear should face out..... Just saying...

mistakes happen, its been 2 months now and the motor takes a pretty good beating every weekend and no problems yet
