I have a rb20dett (and i have the pics to back it up). My problem is that my crank case ventalation is smoking like a mother. Every time it starts it smokes and seems to get alittle worse when it is warm, it smokes more when its reved up. I drove the car for a little test run and it spit alittle bit of oil out, and the hose had some white liquid may be burnt oil idk. Ive talked to some people at mckinney motor sports about it but they say its reg. but im not so sure. I have come to know that it could be the rings, God willing its not. so is this regular or what?

The only thing that might appy that i still have to do is my timing is alittle off, but it still runs. im trying to put a vid up on youtube, once i do ill post the link.

White liquid sounds like coolant in your oil, excessive blowby indicates possible internal damage.

Leakdown and compression test time!

i think i know where you goofed! Check your coolant lines. I've seen this happen when someone put a coolant line where a vaccum line should be.

Dude it is clearly blowing smoke out of the PCV system. I highly doubt it is a coolant line issue. That is a ton of smoke coming out and I'm putting money on the rings being toast. Could also be the valve seals if you are lucky. At least that way you can avoid having to pull the head.

It is normal sometimes for the catch tank to condense a lot of moisture out of the air/block and turn milky.

So just run a pressure test and leak down, any other things to test or do?any chance it could smoke because of timing?

any jabs at why smoke is coming out of the dipstick by any chancehaha toally about to join that NRRBA

Did you say you just rebuilt that motor? Might have washed the cyl. walls and glazed them. May be a matter of honing the cylinder again.

"The bitterness of poor quality remains after the sweetness of low price is forgotten" = true that

i got it off of ebay(bad choice) but the bright side being ill have a way more stout of an engine once its done.

I got some bolt ons (rb26 twins, mckinney down pipe, huge fmic, 2" radiator, nismo therostat, mckinney driveshaft, 180sx vlsd/axels, 6 puck ceramic with lighten flywheel, aftermarket dump pipes, after market manifolds) but no real engine work.

I can show you guys how i did the twin set up on the rb20 if you want, got a vid camera and would be tight to do a thing on the twins and a before and after of the project.

I'm thinking about taking it out, and boring to a 2.2 or 2.4 but still reading some threads. prob buying new rods and pistons and maybe a 25 crank if it comes my way. Im going to go thorugh the head(water pump, oil pump, cams, springs, mayby do a valve job for the sake of i don't want ot pull it out again haha. hey atleast ill know my engine inside and out and the experience from that will be par non.

so im already not so bumbed but still kinda sucks being my first project and all, havn't felt the wonders of boost yet haha but i got a friend who has totally been helping me and teaching me about the wonderful life of boost and the rb.

totally i was looking for one, whats it worth, good condition or what?i heard that you got to get that rb26 crank and rods for the 2.4 but you can do a 2.3 with 25 crank and rods with 80mm or could go with 81mm or 82mm pistons but i don't want to worry about thin walls. Anyone know if it just a slap in and go or alot of the machine shop work(for the crank and rods to fit). totally down to do a rb23dett that would be sick! ill prob do arp studs, hks metal head gasket then go though my head and build that and replace the pumps just so i don't have to pull it out again... haha straight blessing from a curse

to all those who say just go with the 25, i would if i didn't have all the crap to do the rb20(mounts, driveshaft, ect) plus my motor will be unheard of atleast to me...
