When i start my car i hear what sounds like rod knock, or a dry start, and goes away after about 2 seconds. I live in tennessee where there are hills everywhere. Is this bad enough to hurt anything?? There are no other symptoms of rod knock except when this happens. I run Castrol Syntec full synthetic, 10w-30 and use a wix ka24 filter which supposedly has an anti drainback valve which is supposed to prevent dry starts but im not sure. Anybody else have any experience with this or can tell me how to prevent this?? My mechanic suggested changing out the bearings but i dont really feel that its necessary. Thanks for any help

Im running the same oil setup as you and ive never had a problem. Is this a ongoing problem or did it develop after you changed anything(i.e. different type oil, filter, etc)?

I honestly cant remember when it started. I guess i noticed it a few months ago. I waited a little too long to change the oil ( about 5k) since its my daily and im a college student which means no time lol. I was running conventional oil before i ran synthetic but neither seemed to affect it.

My diagnosis was that me parking on hills of all sorts was causing the oil to drain away from the bearings and causing a dry start. Also i should note that tennessee had a below 30 degree morning this morning and it didnt do it?
