OK. I just got my 2nd GTS-T from Japan. About two weeks into daily driving, and one morning the engine starting bogging alot after it warmed up. It actually felt like 5 cylinders were running. Well, the next day I took the car to my buddies so that we can diagnose the problem...and same thing...after the car warmed up...the thing starting bogging again. Though it was a spark plug or the MAF, but it wasnt. I tested the spark plugs and plug 2 was not sparking at all. The yellow plastic inside the wire connector on the coil was completely disintegrated. I realized that the coil was shot or the connection was not good becuase one of the yellow cables wasnt really all the way in the connector. I re-installed the coil to the plug and eliminated the plastic connector and just re-attached the 3 wires to the coil. Started the car....everything sounded good....and then the freakin coil just BURNT up, literally. I took it off...the whole thing was cracked and melted a hole right through it.

My real question;

Could a bad coil disintegrate the connector...and why is it that when I plugged the wires back to the coil (thinking the connection was better) the freakin' thing went up in smoke?????

Could the problem be elsewhere...maybe in the harness????, or do u guys think its strictly the coil???? Its really strange because the car would drive just fine (not my first Gts-T) when it is first started...but 5 minutes into driving...the problem would arise. What the hell????

Any help/advice/previous experiences would be appreciated. Thanks a million. I am buying an 94' Infiniti Q45 series 1 coil to replace...is it the right choice???

the first 2 coils of the Q45 are usable correct. (LOL, don't ask me why the others don't, no one ever says other wise)

Could possibly be a shorted coil that when heated up would short itself out.

When you were testing the car, it most likely wasen't using that coil when heating up because it would short itself out, but once you made the connection striaght, it would constantly short where there was no break and ended up burning up the coil.

double check your harness and make sure nothing is fishy is going on, swap around some coils and see if that one coil heats up again to a point where you realize its damaging itself (not saying wait till it starts making damage). If its a isolated problem on multiple coils on that same cylinder than expect the harness.

Thats just my quick guess as i leave the office so good luck.

The reason they say coils 3-8 of the Q45 won't work is because where the harness plugs into the coil is extended out on them. So there isn't enough room to plug in all the coils with that extra long connecter part sticking out.
