Hi guys,
I checked with ShopKey yesterday & found the older model 300ZTT autos operated like a regular transmission, where the later models were shifted via a pair of solenoids controlled by a trans control module to fire the solenoids. (one on, one off 1st gear, both on, 2nd gear, one off, one on, 3rd gear, both off, 4th, does that make sense) if one were motivated, a system like the one above could be wired to operate like a paddle shift setup with relays to control the solenoids.
Keep in mind I'm talking about a manually shifted auto, not a BMW M3 style SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox).
The simpler of the two I would think would be the non-solenoid actuated one. But, at least from a parts availability, the later model would/could be more easily attainable. I know there's some high horsepower 300TT autos out there.
I'm doing some more research today & this weekend to check on cable/linkage actuated shifter stuff, MusicMan, I'll post again once I know which usdm years would make more sense to swap.
I'll probably call McKinney this afternoon & try to pick their brains on the one they were involved in. I really like the way those guys operate, plus they have RB25 autos at the moment & could make the appropriate crossmember & driveshaft changes to accomodate their swap.
I'm thinking I'd like a S14 w/twin T28 based super 60 equipped RB26 with perf cir thrust bearings machined impeller/turbine housing with a clipped turbine wheel , auto with 2600rpm stall & a trans brake, thank you. :ylsuper
