Hello,

After driving my car with the rb20det in it I have decided its ready for some tuning. What are some easy tuning that will help my engine out in power & performance without upgrading turbo, injectors, etc..just simple engine tuning?

Thanks

Tony

you cant just tune an engine, you need to know how it needs to be tuned first, richer, leaner, timing, etc

get on a dyno with a wideband for the best option, if not a AF gauge will suffice...i guess..

if your really going to be tuning your self, i would suggest waiting untill you do some upgrades.

for now, just up the boost to 12-14 psi.

when you do injectors, turbo ect... the setup im planning on running would most likely also do you good-

greddy E Manage, E-01 boost controller/programmer, and a wideband O2 controller.

the E-01 is kinda expensive, but it allows you to tune the emanage, control boost, datalog, view sensor output, and display the output of the wideband controller. it also displays boost in digital and analog in 5 different units of measure. 4" backlit LCD screen.

What size injectors are you going to be using Ivory?

Not only just air/fuel tuning but also anything like spark plugs or anything that will super clean my engine (sea foam?). What spark plugs do you reccomend? Spark plug wires?

Denso Iridiums

and there are no spark plug wires on RB motors well that are upgradable like on normal cars

at least none that im aware of. RB motors use direct coil ignition. at least i think thats what its called.

im planning on 720's i read the manual for the Emanage carefully, and the E01 manual, and im very excited. i wish i had the money to do it right now because i cant wait to get my hands on the E01.

heres my plan-R33 rb26 clipdenso 720'stwin Garrett BB T25nismo 280Lph FP / or Z32 tt FP with boost activated voltage boosterstock manifolds, used hks or apex downpipes/frontpipe/exhaust [3.5"] modded to fit Jstock R33 ic piping/IC [if it fits, otherwise custom FMIC]Z32 brake calipers/mc/pedals/clutch MCrb25det transKAAZ 1.5 clutch LSDunsure on clutch [maybe used twin plate, or new single]Emanage/E01 w/2 channel wideband5Zigen typhoon 17x8F 17x9Rcustom PS A/C lines /HICAS eliminated

All work performed by myself except for the driveshaft/motor mounts/hydraulic and refrigerant lines.

thats the game plan im working with. just trying to save enough money to have it up and running by july.

the only thing i can see messing me up is not getting the clip in time because im gonna be cutting it close due to the expense, once i have all the parts, im off to my uncles house for 3-4 weeks to get it all together and everything working.

the hardest part of the whole thing will probably be the motor mounts, fitting the IC, and getting the A/C to play nice.

also im undecided on weither or not to integrate the R33 cluster, because im going to need a VSS recalibrator, so i might as well go with it.

Don't underestimate the benefits of tuning air/fuel. I think it is mandatory to put these cars on a dyno with a wideband and some form of fuel controller (be it an S-AFC, HKS's version of the same thing, or a engine management system). They run very rich from the factory, so not only should you pick up power but fuel econ should increase as well.

I think Hybrid was showing about a 11-13 air fuel range on his wideband dyno pull. To bad the guy operating the dyno didn't know what he was doing (thought stoich was 12.3 or something crazy like that), so Hybrid just said thanks and left without a full pull and with no tuning changes.

As for plugs, I'd recommend (so does Motorex) running part#-PFR6A-11 NGK's with a .8mm gap. I would run copper instead of platinum (what all turbo guys domestics and imports have always told me). They are cheaper and perform just as well.

Hope this helps.

im not really chasing numbers, its for fun. 450 WHP will make me very happy. i could probably squeeze alot more out of it, but im not really looking to blow it up.

its just something for me to play with.

yup, copper plugs are better in turbo apps because the give a hotter spark. the only advantage of platinum plugs is there lifespan.
