curious as to why you would want to rebuild a transmission that could potentially not have a thing wrong with it...upgrade transmission? perhaps but if your going to be going for big pwer why didnt you go with a stronger foundation for a transmission... the RB20 is really nothing more than a stock 240sx transmission or a SR20 transmission with a different bellhousing attatched to it to mount up properly...would prob have been a better choice to go with a RB25 transmission or perhaps a Z32 transmission just a thought.

Yea, I agree with Mark. If it isn't broken why are you tearing it apart to fix it? And the amount of money, time, and effort involved... you could have upgraded to a larger transmission.

get your hands on a RB25 transmission to start.. or if you can get ahold of a RB25 or a RB26 front bellhousing you can make a hybrid transmission like i did by using the guts and rear housing of a Z31 or a Z32 300zx transmission...its a little work though...i did the Z32 hybrid transmission swap and so im more familiar with that than the Z31 transmission.

ok hold on you are looking for 600+ hp... but you bought a RB20 for 300 dollars.... im pretty sure you are going at this goal completely a** backwards. i mean its possible but if you are bragging about getting a motor for so cheap i don;t think you understand how much $ its going to take in "race" parts to get that motor into those kinda #'s. you had better just sell the transmission right now if you are looking to put out that much... do you even know how to drive a car with 400+?

How are you "retired spec ops" at 26 years old? Also, I notice your avatar is the same as joethemech. Troll job maybe? You must be getting paid that special spec ops retirement money to have a 735hp Dodge Cummings and a TJ sitting on 42's, then be able to start a 600hp+ RB project.

And as a matter of fact, I'm in the military, have a job with special pay, have been to Iraq, recently had 2 close friends medically retired, have a pretty heavily modified jeep TJ stateside, and have invested pretty well, so I have some idea of what things cost and how much money there is to be made in the military. Congrats though on being able to pull all that off

You are not going to be able to make an RB20 transmission handle 600+hp, so lets just get that out there, but do you also plan on making 600+hp with an RB20 engine? That's likely not going to happen. It sounds like to me you need to do a LOT more research before you start into this project and re-evaluate your goals or the engine you decide to go with.

I have found the transmission to use thanks to some ppl on another web site... and I will get 600hp out of and RB20...... just look for it in the mags when it's done and on the track....

Dont worry about making 600hp on an rb20 im well on my way to doing the same thing. Theres alot of guys on here that talk down on the 20 just because it's smaller than thier rb25 or 26, it CAN be done and actually it's not proving to be that expensive so far either, at least compared to the amont of money i was told it would take. The way i see it, if a CA18 can make a 1000+hp why cant an rb20?. I mean no offense to any of the other people on here when i say this but alot of you guys are EXTEREMLY biased against the 20 when you could be alot more supportive of ideas.

What transmission did you decide to go with then? Glad to hear you're optimistic about the power that you can make out of a 20. Anything is possible given enough money. It's going to be a lag monster, and I'm thinking you are going to wish you went with a different base for the project, but good luck in your quest. Any particular reason you want to do this with a 20 instead of an 25/26/30 other than the fact that you already have the 20? Also, are you planning to dump all this money into your neighbor's car? That's awfully nice of you. Please post up a link when you get his car that your spending so much money on into a magazine
