I hope you're being facetious. He went to the Skyline forum to get advice on how to make his Versa "fast" - and they pretty much made a mockery of him (could have told you that would happen). He spouted off at them with expletives and was banned.

Excuse me, but as one of the older farts here, I have no idea what "RB powered" means. Does "RB" stand for "rubber band" or does it mean something else?

Looking at Google, one potential answer: An engine made by RB Products.

http://www.rbproducts.com/mainEn.php?part=Products

They're small engines designed for radio-controlled cars....

lol

rb engine = rb is the engine code found in the nissan skyline. it's a lot of work to fabricate and get it to work. if someone does do it hats off to them. My company is still working on finishing our rwd Yaris project. 2.7L tacoma engine with a rwd conversion on a yaris. it's a pain and half.

So Rockhound, is cleavelandsound banned from this forum too? That's a bummer... I really liked having that guy around. He brought a youthful enthusiam to the forum that was needed around these parts.

First off, please be careful when talking about banned members, as that is disallowed conversation.

I don't mind in this case, because we're not having an argument about it, we've just got someone interested in what happened.

The Cleveland Sound was TEMPORARILY banned (length of ban: 1 week) for profanity in his response to the Skyline members. I know, he got goaded into it, but another admin has talked to him about it, he understands what has happened, and will be back in a few more days.

Ok... next on the plate... no, he will not be making an RB powered Versa. There are universal automotive codes in place, mostly for "emissions" reasons (though they still apply in regions with no emissions testing) that state that it is illegal to install an engine that is older than your chassis into your vehicle. Since there are no '07 or '08 RB powerplants available, this is not possible to do and still have it street legal. Note... it would be legal if he could find a racing venue that would allow him to run the car in this way.

The Cleveland Sound doesn't know a lot about cars, as has been evidenced by some of his posts around here. He DOES have great enthusiasm for his car, so I'd like all forum members to be helpful with his questions and have patience with him when he comes back. If we can start him off with the basics and get him learning from there, then perhaps down the road he can amaze us with some fantastic project.

(just... not terribly likely an RB powered Versa any time soon).

Well, it would at least be street legal. as for "can't be that hard."... not a lot of engine swaps are cakewalks. Especially not in the days of fuel injection. Used to be easier when everything was carbed. Now you have to change out all the electronics, too. And if the wiring is different between the ECUs, you gotta change all that out too.

Ok i knew that. About the MR20DE. Or just take the current MR18DE and swap the crank, rods and oversized custom pistons. Raise the compression to around 11.0:1. Custom cams, port and polish... and ... standalone computer... should be able to get at least 165HP...

If one wanted a 165hp car then why buy a Versa in the first place?

agreed. unfortunately, alot of V fans need to realize that our platform isn't quite as easy to work with as the Honda crowd. going to take alot of time and money to find a something that's even on the same level as B series and K20 swaps.

For some people, it's not the point of having a 165HP car. Heck, you can get that anywhere... Tiburon, Altima, Mustang, Impreza, Mazda6, whatever...

For those people, the point is that you have a 165HP Versa. Or a 165HP Fit, or some other car where very few people would expect 165HP. And if that is where they want to spend their resources, well more power to them.

Finally someone who understand . Should be enough to get 15.6 in the quarter mile... The stock MR20DE has 140HP so 25 more isnt that hard to get. Probably can get even more HP out of it...

No, that actually wouldn't be logical... now you're talking that NONE of the hardware is the same between platforms.

The QR25DE would be WAY more logical.

And James - the same reason an RB won't be a good choice for a versa. The SR20DET is an older engine that can't legally be installed in the chassis.
