Hello, :wavey:
Like the title says I am a complete noob to RB engines ( to turbo imports completely to be honest ), but I am an experienced fabricator and have done a lot of work on hot rods and older customs. Moving on, I have a 1990 300zx (Z32) and a RB25DET motor/transmission set I am putting into the car. I have a local guy that has a tuning shop and is good with RB motors, I'm going to have him build me a wiring harness with Aem stand alone, bar map setup, etc. I would like put on all the big $$$ parts he will probably recommend, but my budget for this build wont allow it.

From there, I would like to run a larger top mount turbo setup to make considerably more power, but I cannot build this car with all extremely high dollar parts, or it will never get built. I am looking for recommendations for the best bang for the buck parts. So less than hks, but better than china-Ebay! I want a recommendation for a pretty decent turbo, but I'm not paying $1800 for it, a top mount manifold that's cheaper than full race, injector recommendations, etc.

I already have a freddy intake manifold, older HKS sqv bov, and some other various parts. I plan on doing head studs, cometic gasket, fuel pump, FMIC, etc. etc. all the needed items that are standard for the build.

Any help that points me in the right direction would be awesome, thanks.

PS haters, I have done a lot of research on old threads on here, rbz32, etc. they are either about big baller budgetless builds or cheap parts bashing parties. thanks for not commenting :chuckle:

Lol on the last part.
Good luck with the build, Look up my build for the rbambler. I did a lot of fab and ran a bunch of cheap bits. First time around I ran an hx35 turbo bought locally for 250 bucks. Re flowed injectors, freddy mani, didnt do head studs or gaskets.....till 22psi ate the stocker! lol.

Sounds like your on track

Do you have a power goal in mind?

My car is far from "big baller build status" but I can guarantee you wont see a better running RB powered Z chassis around these parts.

My only advice is your build is only as good as your cheapest part. Fast, Cheap, Reliable - Pick two

If you can't afford to do it right, the intelligent suggestion would be to not do it at all. There's nothing worse than a pile of money thats shaped like a car thats useless and broken down in the garage

I would like to make over 400 at the wheels, more would be better of course, but I'm not going full internals or anything, so not too crazy. Like I said in the original post, I'm not looking for someone to tell me that it isn't worth doing if I cant throw 20K into the engine on all super high dollar HKS and Tomei parts, and I'm not looking for someone to tell me its ok to buy a cheap ebay china kit.

What I'm looking for is advice for a good solid turbo that works well with the RB25 along with ideas for a decent turbo manifold. If I can locate the correct parts for decent price I would have no problem TIG welding up my own exhaust manifold.

I would prob read Booztd 3's build thread and see what he did and didn't do for research. Can't think of any other RB Z32's.

I am by no means a fabricator. I just know how to put things together. I just finished mine and I'm please with the results. Here is the thread I made in a local forum.

It was a lot of fun to build and learned a lot. This was the second craziest build for me. If I were to keep I would've built my own manifold for it as well. For now I went the cheaper route to mount an extra turbo I had and just built a t3-t3 flange with wastegate flange between them.
