Just wondering and thought it might start a good thread.I read somewhere that L torque plates are used to bore RB's because pretty much everything lines up. So is it possible to use an L28 block with RB head and Externals.

From what I remember the rb head will sit on the l-series block and the cylinders and head bolts line up. However the coolant and oil passages do not.

The KA head will fit on a 4-cylinder L-series block. If you go and do a search on hybridz.org there was a bit of discussion on this.

the RB head will bolt up but as already said the coolant and oil passages don't line up, and if your gonna buy an RB head for a little more you can get the whole engine

I agree, Just thought it would be a neat Idea to have a RB28. plus being able to use the of the more modern elctronics and such from the RB.

the rb26 uses the same bore as the L28. and the same stroke as the L24, if you want an RB28 have the crank offset ground to add the 5.33 mills of strokeand add custom pistons with heigher pin height, or maybe just over bore the rb26 block .120 over (dunno if the rb's can handle the overbore (L6 can)) or maybe some variant using rb30 parts, as for the electronic's just use a standalone, if I were to run an RB I'd want to run stand alone on it anyhow, stock systems are too limited, and if you got the 4k for the RB whats another grand for a stand alone

Or you can buy a RD28 crank and slap it into a rb26 block, or buy a rb30 and put a rb25 head on it. There is a L series running 2 ka heads welded together so it is a 6cyl head now. There is tons of options if you want more displacement.

The Rb ecu's are very programmable just as much as standalones, but not as many options for add ons.

Did he ever get that finished I've check his Car Domain site but it hasn't been updated in like two years and He had only bolted it together Not welded yet.

As for all the other Idea's thanks but I already knew most of that. I was just looking for something new. And My resoning behind it was that you could just leave the L28 Shortblock in the Car, still attatched to everthing and Just bolt on all the RB stuff. Since Rb parts are a little hard to come by I didn't know if anyone had ever thought of this or if it was possible. Not that I was saying i was going to try, I just thought it was a neat idea.

sure, the OS Giken and I believe HKS made one, but if you find one last one I heard of selling was like $6k, the L28 might be limited by it's head but not very, there are L28's putting out 600 whp! thats well north of 700 hp at the crank! and if you really need 600- 800 hp the rb might be the better option, but for most of us, 400-500 hp is plenty

From what I can remember he did have the head all welded up and bolted on with the timing chain done. I am not too sure if it is running yet though.

I don't put much faith in tath thing wroking, and when it's all said and done, he could bought an RB25 and saved a lot of trouble, sometimes no-one else has done something because it's a bad idea

im looking for a an old 240z to do a rb swap into... yeah its only a rb25det, but i think itll hold up agains the l28t... tyimei also makes a 2.8 stroker kit as well. im thinking or using a rb26dett crank, with forged internals. i dont feel that the extra.2 liters is worth the money for the sort of power i want. i think that 400whp is more than enough for a ~2300lb(?) car, and shouldne be that hard to make reliably...
