Hey guys. Ive got my project 240 here, and i had the sudden idea of an rb swap. Its cheaper than an sr swap ha.

Anyhow, im poor and wanna go cheap, so i was wondering if the trannys on the rb and ka were in any way the same. ive googled and searched, but i cant find anything.

And dont be hating. Ive gotten enough sh*t about having a 4 color car. It seems no one quite understands the term "project car" these days...

"I" dont recall ever hearing that the ka is the same as rb. however if u go rb20 which is the only cheap rb then i think i remember reading long ago that u can use stock ka driveshaft. someone correct me if im wrong.

sr might be your best bet if u r going cheap overall price. if u going best performance for the money but dont have a lot to spend then save up a little more for rb25. seems worth it.

good luck

If you are poor and wanna go cheap, go with an SR. Hell, if you are poor, you shouldn't put money into a car anyways. Enough of being a dad, but you should have "big boy money" to get into any RB swap.

FYI the RB and KA transmission's are miles apart. Think about it. Stock KA power is 150hp, stock RB20/25 is ~230-250hp. DETurbine has been working on getting the Z32 transmission swap to work with the RB25DET bell housing, but it sits the shifter back about 2-3 inches if I remember right. I haven't read any updates though.

While it's true that you can acquire the RB20 motor for less money than an SR.. that's the extent of it being the cheaper swap. The RB is more expensive to install, maintain, and upgrade.

If your looking for cheap power, I'd suggest a KA - Turbo setup.

The Rb20 and KA transmissions are somewhat similar. I remember a few guys who used bits of each to make a working trans.. I think the bellhousing from the RB along with the internals of the KA or something like that.. I'll try to dig up a couple threads about it... But, the RB20 motors that you see online will come with the trans anyhow.. so I'm not understanding your question about this???

Same as the other guys said... if your poor and want to go cheap... DON'T buy an RB!

Bro go with a KA-t, If your motor is good.If not then go to the junk yard and buy one for like $400 and put a turbo kit on it.

Or go CA18DET or SR.

RB20 looks cheap from the begning but it really isnt'.RB's need mounts or a whole front clip.Which means more $$ plus more $$ for shipping too.25's need a Dshaft.Plus IC piping unless your sticking with stock IC and getting th front clip.Plus maintainence etc. etc. etc.

OH YEAH, how can I forget WIRING!!!!

Look around do some SEARCHing and figure out for yourself what you want to do.

I think someone used a RB bellhousing bolted to the KA trans.But. like someone said already, the trans comes with the front clip or motor set. If your doing a swap and don't just buy a long block.haha that's just doing your own self DRY. lol

PS. the 4 color car is just camoflage. LOLLOLOL
