Will any RB series engine fit in a z31

Has any one here ever done this swap? (if it can be done)

The Japanese 200ZR versions came with them.

just to clarify the 200ZR in japan came with the RB20DET, any of the RB motors will bolt into a Z31 using the ZR pan and mounts, I am not sure which crossmember is required I'd guess it's the same as the turbo Z31 and yeah a few have been done tha I know of mostly the RB25DET

Obviously it can be done from the pics above. I'm pretty sure evildky is correct on the z31 turbo crossmember as I know a local who was planning on doing an RB in a Z31 purchased one just for that purpose (he ran out of money and parted out his project though). RB25 would be very nice in the Z31 though

That's the way to do it.....nissan motor in a nissan

Why not go all out? RB26DETT the sucker.

The stock VG30ET will handle at least as much power as you'll ever get out of an RB25. And cost less. And have rebuild parts readily available.

Why someone would spend $2000 on a motor and all the time to swap it in and have it be slower than stock is beyond me.

problme with the RB;'s is they are overpriced, they are a great motor with awesome potential, but for all that money you spend just to buy the used motor you could make some big power on the VG or L6 turbo motors

I wonder if ZR oil pan and mounts are still availible as OEM parts in japan (not nessecarily from nissan, but any OEM-style parts maker).

RB20's are cheaper than SR20's, seems like it would be an awesome swap.

ZR pans, pickups, and mounts are available from Nissan Japan. You do need the pickup out of a 200ZR, the skyline pickup is in the wrong place for the pan/crossmember.

Sure a RB20 is cheap, like ~1200 last I checked, but they are hard to get power out of - the combustion chambers are just WAY too small. But with the super short stroke (~62 IIRC) almost 12,000 RPMs is possible from the stock lower end. Valvetrain on the other hand...

Here's mine. 85 Nissan 300ZX Turbo with an RB25DET. It runs perfectly, and I've been driving it daily for over a week. About to take her back to Texas.

As far as I have seen, nobody else in the U.S. has completed this swap. There is one other guy who -claims- to have done it, but he has no pictures or video of it, and he's banned from half the Z forums so who knows..

RB26 won't fit in a LHD z31 because of the steering components.

That's BS. It can easily be made to fit. It won't fit with the stock down pipes, but anything is possible with time and money.

That car and the one next to it look familiar

another pic of the same car (all from ZCON 04, obviously)

A 200ZR that was there

And, apparently those silly Japanese will shoehorn an RB26DETT anywhere it'll fit:

If it is like the clutch fan on my Z32TT, it flows like 6500 CFM. Good luck finding an electric fan that will flow anything near that.

yeah, because their 30 year old stock fans flow less than a modern electric fan

actually most of us s30 guys keep the stock mech fan, because there just isn't much room between the engine and the rad for most elecfans, even the thinnest fans have to offset to clear the waterpump puley, no most s30 turbo guys go electric because if you wanna run an I/C you kinda have to get the mech fan out of the way for piping, personally I just can't get behind the idea of a pusher fan so I got a pair of small thin twins, they barely do the trick, but I am running an aftermarket thermostat and need to replace it with an OE as the opening in the OE's are larger and flows better

But you don't have an RB in there.

I had no idea the s130 engine bay was longer, there seemed to be more than enough room in mine.
