Ok so i have an rb25det with a greddy intake and a new top mount mani with a newly rebuilt holset H1C off a 93 dodge. Oil is backing up into the turbo and burning out the exhaust, and can not figure out what is going on. The holset oil return relies on gravity to get it back to the engine, there is not kinks or sharp turn in the feed line, it is made out of 3/4 inch copper tubing. We pluged the engine hole and just let the oil com out the turbo with out the feed line and it was pumping great. Filled a urine cup in like 7 sec. there is nothing clogging the hole to the engine. I put an oil restrictor on it with a .060 hole to limit the oil pressure, heard that holsets need that. Please help this is the last part to a 6 month project. The only thing is that there is back pressure some where. could not figure hot to post a pic , but will be glad to email.Sorry for the long post.

ive seen this on a different turbo (sc61) on an rb, because of crank case pressure, motor was not breathing properly. this particular rb had a small air fiter on the valve cover and it got clogged up with oil and the motor started building pressure and caused oil to back up into the turbo and was burnning it out exhaust, so hope this helps

in other words, how are you venting your crankcase pressure? Factory setup? With a hose from the valve cover to the intake, and a PCV going to the intake?

Or are you doing it with a hose to a catch can with no vaccume applied to it.

no i had him remove the air filter and hook it back like the factory, he installed a oil catch can and hooked it on the intake side of the turbo. (behind air filter and maf) He did not have any issues after that

just read this... very interesting what you posted. i was doing a few drag runs once about 6 months ago, higher rpm.. running some crappy small valve cover breather filters on top vented to atmosphere.

saw some huge cloud of smoke come out the back of the car.

pull over, pop the hood, and see one side's valve cover breather filter is kinda soaked in oil and dripping a bit on my downpipe. i figured it was too much oil pooling in the head and sucking past the valve seals. compression check turned out fine.

what you posted above helps explain things.

I had the same thing happen to me after a morning of street tuning. The filter on my catch can apparently clogged with oil/moisture and prevented the crank case from breathing. Popped the filter off and it immediately fixed the problem. Kinda embarassing smoking profusely at a stop light before I was able to pull off and fix it.
