Ok so i have a walbro fuel pump im using on my rb20 and it was working great till about a week ago when i was coming down from willow springs. On my way home it was dying little by little on me. Thankfully it got me home. So now i need a new pump and i was wondering what kind you guys are running and how much did you get it for. Thanks

Made 680rwhp on 2 walbro's.........not happy with them though. Will probably switch to a big pump like a weldon for this year.....

Power Enterprise (walbro) 255l/h. If this one gives me ****, I'm going with the Tomei drop in.

i did a LOT of research on this a few weeks ago. I was running a supra denso and the fuel pressure would drop off at sustained high boost. hardwired, i would say this pump is good to about 450 wheel. pressure starts to drop off beyond that. if you want to squeeze more out of the pump, you need to replace the thin wire in the connector to your pump's lid. I had mine hardwired, but in the end it was still using the 14ish gauge wire into the top of the fuel pump lid. The problem with the supra denso if you do some research is it draws a LOT of amps. everyone says close to double a walbro pump. i would suggest running 10 gauge wire ALL the way to the pump, which means running bulkhead connectors through the fuel pump access lid. Other than that, the supra pump is super reliable AND quiet.

I wouldn't run a walbro cuz of the horror internet stories. Most ppl avoid them cuz they've had bad experiences with them. They are cheap in price, and when they do work they seem to flow pretty well. I'd say they can do about 500 wheel by itself, simply cuz it draws less amps than a denso supra. i have friends that run walbros with success, but i always hear those "stories". And at $85 a piece... i dunno. if you've handled a walbro it is the smallest POS ever and just looks weak if that means anything. With that said, i would NEVER touch a dual walbro setup. One is already scary, but 2 just means twice the failure rate without you knowing until WOT.

Bosch 044 seems to be a great pump. It is an external but can be used internal, and flows rock solid. It's about the same price as the supra ($200). It is a PITA to fit though in tank because of its size.

Nismo makes a pump for the GTRs that is pretty baller and supposedly works awesome. Apex-i makes one for the GTRs and is often seen as the "top of the line" in tank fuel pump. That said, these two pumps are the most expensive. I think the Nismo is slightly cheaper, but the Apex pump is $399 online. I got a great deal on one so that is what I've replaced my supra denso with. I'm yet to do some pulls and monitor my AF compared to the supra pump, but i'll let ppl know my results. The Apex pump is bigger than the supra denso, so fitting is a bit harder. It is also LOUD, but if you look at flow numbers, it flows more than anything else and it draws very little amps.

Tomei / HKS/ Sard are also alternatives. Sard is the cheapest and I couldn't find any results of ppl running it. Tomei is slightly more expensive but not as much as Apex/Nismo. Might be a markup thing, but they might also just be rebadging a Denso. HKS seems to be a rebadged Denso pump, so it's basically no better than the supra oem denso.

the fuel pump you want to run really depends on your power levels. if you're sticking to < 450 whp, I'd go with the supra denso. If you're on a budget and cant afford the extra ~$115, go with the walbro and NEVER run it low on gas. If you want big power > 600 whp, you need to step up to the big stuff. Dual bosch 044 external with sump tank, dual walbro (if you want to risk it), aeromotive, etc. these are all tough to setup and usually requires completely revamping the fuel system. I'm running the apex because I'm maxing the supra and still want to keep the fuel system simple (stock lines, single pump). Supposedly it can be run to 600 whp but we shall see.

that's just a stock pump on the sup TT and is overrated, and reliable for 350hp. supra guys threw that sucker out when they make more power than stock. my friend put down 700hp on his 2jz on a dual walbro; no problem for years.

if you guys are serious about getting the best quality pump, and don't mind putting out some extra $, get Weldon or Aeromotive.

the problem isn't the pump, it is the voltage to the pump. the stock wiring isn't up to par and voltage will drop off. the pump has the ability to flow a lot, most ppl just can not realize its full potential with the stock wiring. the walbros will flow more with stock wiring because of this

i ran the tomei pump, and it worked flawlessly. a little pricy, and sligtly noisy, but so worth it. i never worried about my fuel system failing or doing anything weird.

gawdzilla - The voltage bump is a definite way to increase the output of the pump but it can only get you so far before having to go to a larger pump.

actually you can go pretty far if you bump the voltage, but that's not what i'm talking about.

The wiring is too thin of a gauge and can not support the fuel pump for the amount of current it draws, even at 12V or 14V when the pressure is cranked up under boost. I'm not talking about bumping the voltage, i'm talking about sustaining the voltage, which even a "hardwire kit" cannot do, as it does not replace all of the wiring down to the fuel pump itself.

the supra fuel pump can definitely flow more than 450 whp if you supply good voltage AND have the supporting wiring. on my car, I watched the fuel pressure gauge on a pull. The gauge easily hits 60 psi (17psi + 43 base) and holds it for a few seconds. When 3rd gear starts to top out, the gauge starts falling fast. I see it in my A/F too. My inj duty cycles are also hitting 100% at that point trying to put more fuel into the motor, but the rail is losing pressure.

that can simply be remedy by run the power straight to the battery with a thicker gauge, then activate the pump with a relay.

been there, done that.

the wiring from the lid to the pump is probably 12 gauge. the wiring from the pump lid out to the rest of the car is probably 14 gauge.

I ran 10 gauge wire into the 14 gauge wire because that is what the gauge of the connector on the fuel pump lid is. Ran that 10 gauge through a relay directly to the battery. The problem is, its not that easy to replace all of the wiring down to the fuel pump. The furthest you can "simply" rewire is to that 14 gauge wire that goes into the lid, unless you run some sort of bulkhead connector through the lid with more 10 gauge wire all the way down to the pump. this makes the install much harder.

people see gains by switching to the walbro from the supra denso because the walbro doesn't require as many amps, which is a "shortcoming" of the denso pump.

so this might be a noob question but what happens if you run out of gas useing the walbro? Will it hurt the engine?

supposedly walbro fuel pumps are very susceptible to fuel starve. if you starve the pump theres a very good chance it will die because it has brass bushings or something. oem pumps can be starved and still probably still be ok. if you starve any motor the motor will shut off if its under very low or no load with no harm done. if you fuel starve the motor under high load/WOT you'll probably melt pistons or detonate bad

KENNE BELLE boost a pump is badass, so is the aeromotive fuel pump controller, but best pump hands down is BOSCH 044 i covered this in a OLD thread called high horse power fuel setup or some****

I have never heard of anyone running into a problem with the Walbro pump. They are decent pumps for the price.

I would not recommend anyone running a dual pump setup at all. If you have a single pump and it where to give out, no big deal. If you have one of your dual pumps give out, you will be rebuilding your motor.

yes that myth is correct, that is what happened to mine. Which is why i need a new pump. I will probably end up buying another walbro since i dont have so much money right now but i learned my lesson. If you have a walbro like gawdzilla said "NEVER" run a walbro on low gas.

i don't know about that. best is relative, according to your application. it is a quality pump, but certainly not the best out there. it's capable of providing 300 LPH free flow and 200 LPH at 5 bar (or 72.5 psi) for up to 685BHP, but do you run static 72psi on your setup.

ive got a denso 280 at the moment but i am upgrading to a fuel surge tank here in the next few weeks...i already got my A1000 fuel pump and the controller is on the way..i am also going to be upgrading to 3/8 lines for teh proper fuel flow...woot woot cant wait!!then i wont be worrying at all about fuel anymore.
