Forum=an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of QUESTIONS of public interest.

I'm new in terms of length in time in being a member here. However does that mean that my several hours in months that I did trying to learn before I even asked my first question mean I didn't do research? I ask this as more of a FRIENDLY question.

Another reason I ask this is because the common misconception of people or atleast from what I thought before I read my first forum is that a forum is a place to learn, ask, research and hopefully in the future help back the community of what you already learned to what new people don't know yet. (lol) It's funny cuz during my research in just forums alone a lot people give others (generally) so much crap for asking a question that is answered already. I would get mad too actually. But maybe just maybe they tried and tried and couldn't find it. I know from personal experience its not easy and yes its out there but I also know the feeling of giving up and going easy and quick route of asking everyone at once with just a short paragraph. In a business perspective that is the best! Being able to get a wide audience with little work and no cost.

I could go on but I gotta get back to work...sorry it's long and I honestly probably forgot some stuff that I'll think of later that might have been important to mention. All I ask if you also have feedback or would like to add something do so although if you plan on just getting straight out rude please keep to yourself. Thank you. My intention is not to cause problems but to see how others feel from both side-those ones who know "everything" and those that are "learning"-Oh and I give credit to all those who know so much already I admire that and to those who know so much and help out as best as possible .

Thank you for taking time to read and not be mean I'm new still

Thanks for the comments AT..

Can I just ask that you summarize what you are trying to say. I am having a hard time figuring out what your point is with this post?

Are you just summarizing what you feel a forum is or should be?

Are you saying that our forum is very helpful or not at all helpful?

Are you chastising the forum or certain members for not being helpful or flaming newbs?

I read your post twice and I'm still a bit vague on your point. Please clarify.

Thanks!

Sorry I know see where the confusion might come up and I think its due to the fact that my whole point would have been much more lengthy however I was sitting too long at my desk and felt I needed to do some work for my company before I sit down again. Basically I cut myself off before I could finish and didn't really clearify.

Basically I think its awesome when people help others out when they have questions. I felt that was the point of a forum or atleast one thing and probably the most major one. It just seems that when people do ask questions it is never answered or answered with a smart (censored) remark. I know we have all seen it. I just wanted to know what was going through the mind of those people who know so much and get mad when questions are asked. It defeats a good purpose I personally felt forums brought to people. I completely understand getting annoyed with repetitive questions, but we haven't all seen everything.

Here is the thing people found out what they know somehow and lots of info probably came from there own questions and research so why don't we just help each other out cuz there is most likely something I know that you don't and vice versa. Combined knowlegde will always defeat a single mind. I just wanna know others feelings about this subject of forums and what I've stated so far. Hope this helps out more and once again I probably left important things out again but people keep interrupting me during the message so any further questions I'll be happy to answer. Thanks for your quick reponse to original post. Awesome stuff...especially since you were so calm and collective and precise unlike I can be. lol

Oh quick respones in case I missed them earlier....Questions 1: Everyone's feelings about forums including what and why they post and their responses to other people's posts.Questions 2: Yes my this is 'PART' of my feelings about forums. (my opinion and a quarter will get me a cup of coffee. lol)Questions 3: No just questioning why we all do what we do.Thanks again... again sorry if it response seems choppy and inconsistent I keep getting bothered so my thoughts are written as I approach computer each new time.

I am totally confused.

i think i picked up on one thing. yes people do flame "newbies" for not searching but this point of this forum is to further information building on the RB engines and swaps. if we are answering the same question, every week, thats not helping gain knowledge. it presents a stale atmosphere because its the same thing EVERY WEEK! if you legitimately cant find an answer, post it up! if someone does they will answer you, then call you a noob, then the thread gets locked! thats how internet message boards work!

dont take it so seriously! its just the internet.

I don't take it seriously cuz I've only posted once prior to this and it was small and simple post that had no impact. So for that basic reason I don't take it seriously cuz its never happened to me. I just wanted to ask this question to hear from others and after reading your post I better understand. The more I read, the more I take in, and hopefully the better I become. I do my research so I don't ask questions yet. In fact there has been times I wanted to ask questions and for the reason of creating a problem I didn't and I researched more and more til I was almost tired of looking up the same thing and getting no where. Then I'd be lucky enough to find info on my topic of question. Thanks again for your input. I could right now tell you everything I've learned about a engine I don't even owe yet and what will be involved with my swap. I realized my left over questions that have yet to be answered I'll confront when they come up this Christmas as which is the time I'll be under going my project. I just wanna understand why those who flame,...flame? Know what I mean? I wanna know so I don't ask a dumb question in the future. I will be having one major set of questions that will help me with my future purchase next weekend when it starts. Summary: If I know why others answer others posts or not, then the likely hood of me making the mistake of asking a repeated questions is less. Thanks again guys...

Ahh... finally I'm getting what you are saying.

First, let me share a couple tips on how to post on an internet forum (structure and content related). 1.) Be Brief.. When using an internet message board, remember to be brief. Say things as simply and shortly as you can. Be sure to include enough info to ask a question or make a valid comment, but don't over talk things. You clearly have a tendancy to express your train of thought in your posts. Just slow down and boil down your post to a few short sentances needed to ask your question or share your info.

2.) Use more paragraphs than you normally would. People always rush through what they read on the internet. You could have the same number of posts in two different messages... the one that is spaced out and seperated into more paragraphs will be read by more people.

Now... let me address your question. Of all the typing you did this morning.. you could have ditched all the rest and just wrote the part that I quoted above....

You are asking... Why do peope flame? and How can I avoid asking questions that will lead people to flame me?

People flame others for a variety of reasons. Some do it to feel better about themselves (you can't control that). Some do it to be funny (make jokes to amuse themselves and make others laugh). Some people flame because they are annoyed with a repetitive question (you can avoid this by reading my tips below). Some people flame to put others in their place (some members come across as being arrogant...).

Here is another set of tips for avoiding flaming.. 1.) Always search the topic before you post. If you are unable to find your answer by searching, or are still confused about the topic, then feel free to ask the question in a new post. 2.) When you begin that new post... always start with a respectful (almost apologetic) attitude... "sorry guys, I'm sure this has been covered, and I searched for it, but just couldn't find what I needed. Can anyone help me?"3.) Admit that you are a newb! Like Kamin said above... don't take the internet seriously.. So many people think they need to impress everyone else... so they get this attitude about being super smart and knowledgable.. That's all BS. Admit that you don't know and need help. "hey guys.. I'm a noob, but I'm trying to learn more about this.. Would any of you experts mind sharing some of your knowledge with me?"

Anyhow AT.. Welcome to NICO! I can tell already that you are going to be a great addition to the club. Enjoy the forums! Good luck with your RB project! Let us know if we can help with anything.
