I was just about to put my engine on the stand and started to flip through the FSM and noticed they had the engine mounted form the side.

Is this the only safe place to bolt the engine stand to or can I bolt it to the back of the engine like normal. I havent taken anything off the engine, but I dont think it will be too heavy for the stand (rated to 750 lbs) I am just worried about the strength of the bolts and the threads. The last thing I want to do is have the engine retapped because of stripped threads.

My extra's are on the back. Just have to take the flywheel off and bolt them up. They have been like that for a long time. no harm no foul.

EVERY motor I worked on I bolted to the trans threads. The stand from the factory allows you to access the rear of the engine for changing the rear main seal, thats all.

Thanks. I was going to try it today and just watch very close for the bolts to flex, but this has reassured me. I will still be careful though.
