anybody know how these are named? Also with the VG or VQ engines, i thought V was for V6 , but there also are VQ 4 cyl engines...
I dug a little, all "V(X)" named Nissan engines are V type, either 6, 8, or 12 cyl. I think you're muddling the QR / "Q(X)" series engines with the VQ series. CA supposedly stands for Clean Air... Who knows

its possible each engine series was named based on some idiosynchratic arbitrary convention randomly chosen by a committee.
Roku-Beruto sounds more feasable than most (certainly moreso than Race Bred lol). But also note, that the RB engine induction with the R31 coincides with the discontinuation of the L series engine (1985), formerly used in both the Z cars and the R30 skyline. But after that, the Z cars got the VG engine, while the skylines got the RB, so is also possible that it's the RB for the R chassis engine inline type B, and the cedrics and laurels of the era also got one cos they used the L series engines previously as well - but IIRC only the GTR (and one special stagea trim) got the RB26DETT. Also note amusingly that "L" is not a traditional Japanese sound, and is said "R" (as in "beruto" = "belt-o" = "belt"), so it may even be a joke on the "L" / "R" sounds
