Ok, so i just installed a new motor and have right at 100 miles on it. On my way home today I noticed the car idling really bad when i pulled into a gas station. Popped the hood and i noticed the gasket between the manifold and down pipe was wet. Went to the back end and smelled the exhaust and it smelled like pure gas. I had to make it home so I jumped in and got on the interstate and it sounded like a damn motorcycle. It would sputter on me untill i got the rpm's up and had it floored then it felt like I had vtec or some boost. What could cause this to happen? ECT? Oh and its a 92 240 DE motor. I need some help quick.

I kinda thought that could be it but was hoping it wouldn't be. I fired it up and pulled the connector off the first injector and nothing happened. Would that mean thats a bad injector? And why would it be putting too much gas in if its bad and not plugged in? Doesn't make sense really

Injectors can go bad in general two ways: electrical and mechanical

Electrical: The coil that causes the injector to open and close, (therby alowing fuel into the engine,) can open or short. Result no fuel.

Mechanical: The moveing part that actualy has to open and close to allow fuel to flow can brake, resulting in no fuel no matter how offten the ECU tells the injector to open. OR what I think is the more common mechanical problem, the injector mechanisam can get jammed open allowing maximum fuel delivery no matter what the ECU tells the injector to do.

There is not much you can do to prevent electrical problems. The mechanical problem are more preventable. Run clean good quality fuel. change the filter on a regular bassis. Use your favoite brand of injector cleaner from time to time.

NOTE: I am speaking only of the injector itself and also this is not an all inclusive list. It is intended only to assist the uninformed with some basic information.

What happens when you unplug the other injectors? If #1 is the only one that makes no differance then start there.

Refer to my above post. It sounds like you got some junk in the system as part of the job of installing the new motor. Stuff happens. Replace the injector and fuel filter and most likely you will be good as new again.

How long did the car sit while the new motor was installed? If it was much over 30 days consider replaceing your gas with fresh. Over 90 days, replace the gas. In between is a judgement call. At todays prices I don't want to tell you to dump $50 of gas if you don't have to.

Well thanks for the information man. The car set about 3 months but had little to no gas in it. So when I got it fired up and relatively drivable I took it to the gas station and pumped 53 bucks worth of 93 octane lol. It actually ran very well for a while. My best guess it that the needle inside jammed open and thats whats causing my problems. I got a new injector on the way already just hate to have to wait longer to put some more miles on it. I officially have 103 miles on the motor. But I do appreciate the help on everything tho.
