So cold weather is starting to set in. And my Q is making odd noises. When its cold outside, under acceleration under 2000 rpms I hear a funny rattling sound from under the hood. Its not there on the highway. And I think it gets quieter as I drive.

What on earth is that? It sounds like a lifter noise but more hollow but I'm not sure. It seems like a quiet sound from inside the cabin.

Is it common at 181k or am I screwed?

Thanks-Jesda

Had the same problem last year on my 92 Q45, drove me nuts. I finally figured out it was either the cruise or throttle cable vibrating in it's mount on the firewall or a loose/broken ABS line clip ratteling around near that unit. I tiewrapped the ABS line back to its mounting point and added a little electrical tape to the throttle/cruise cables so they fit tighter in their mounts. No rattles since.

There's a TSB on this issue - it says it's usually the ASCD actuator cable. Sounds like MY92Q's solution is basically the one they recommend in the TSB.

Oh thank goodness. I was thinking the whole time "CHAIN GUIDES OH CRAP! NO NOT NOW! OH GOD NO!"

I'll see if I can tie down those cables.

Whew.
