When i am at a long red light or anytime I press the break for a while there is a weird rattel. when i put it in neutral it goes away and if i put it back in drive it comes back. The same thing happens if i put it in park. i know the front breaks are really low and i need to get them changed. is it possible that the rattle could be coming from there? or the transmission? I wish i had more info but there is not much i can do since it goes away when it goes into neutral or park. any ideas what it could be or how i could gather more info?
Thanks!

Update, it was a pice of heat shield after geting a check engine light and the pathy was on the lift we just cut it off.

Is the noise coming from the engine bay?
You should have someone press the brakes as you pop the hood and snoop around for the source of the noise.

Mine does this too sometimes. I think it might be an engine or transmission mount, but I haven't looked into the issue further. It seems more prevalent with the AC on.

Glad i'm not the only one with this going on.
i've been trying to get someone to troubleshoot with me, but either i forget or run out time. I'm going to have to wait a bit now because it snowed quite a bit yesterday, and now it wont be as easy to slide under the pathy.
I'll try to get some video or other info as soon as i can.
cheers

All Pathfinders I'v seen the exhaust shield clamp becomes unweleded from the sheild itself. Found a fix today for $1.20

Used sheet metal scissors to cut off old one. Rattle Gone! Sorry for any typos.

+1 on the heat shields.

I cut all of mine off.

I had a rattling at idle when cold and at 3000 rpm when warm.

Now it is perfect.

Take a magnet, make sure that magnet doesn't stick to the clamp or the clamp bolt. There are a lot of hardware store hose clamps that have a stainless band and a non-stainless bolt. It's pretty clear from the picture of the old clamp that the poster lives in salt country. You want an all-stainless clamp. If the HW store doesn't have it, try a chandlery like West Marine.

I live in SC Car has been in SC all its life Not offroaded until recently and light at that. I'd say 87% of pathfinders have or will have this issue. Tractors supply is where i got it and it is stainless.

Yeah seems to be the heat shield. Do you really need the heat shield? I'm thinking of just taking it out. Would I have an consequences?

There was a lengthy discussion/thread on here re: heat shields a while back (1-2 years ago?), and the general consensus was that removing them was not a problem.
Mine fell off years ago (one at a time), and I've never bothered replacing them. No problems at all.
Hope this helps.
