My car had an OBX :( short shifter installed when I got it. I had to take it out to change my clutch, and when I put it back the rattle got worse. Its quiet up to 3k rpms, then just nasty. How does the B&M rattle? What about that Megan racing one? This is horrible, it really has to go...but now that I"m used to the short throw I don't think I wanna go with the stock shifter either.

i just put a post about this--i thought it was my mount for the transmission--maybe its the shifter itself--i have the same one...im thinking its the shifter that has too much play in it--also--if you forgot to put the little plastic cap on--its even worse--like this littel clacking sound----ARRG its aggrevating--i think im geting a b&m--its all one peice.

eh, B&M is a ***** to install...just so you know...but the rattling could be a number of things, do you have an aftermarket shift knob?

there is pretty much no different between stock shifter and the OBX, OBX made there shifter really badly, u need a new plastic bushing that goes at the bottom of the shifter (at the tip), and even then there'll be movement, and the bushing doesn't last very long, try to find a metal one from phase 2 racing i think, one of our sponsor sells it (kinda expensive) if u really want it to be solid (as in no excess movement) u'll need to take the shifter out and rearange the different spacers, washers, and rings to the point where it will sit in the transmission right (right now its hanging there, not sitting flush)if u have the money then go for the B&M, but if u dont want to mess with it then find a stock shifter with the snap rings and put it back, because like i say there is no different between the OBX and stock shifter, stock shifter should feel lighter to shift then the OBX too, i'm considering it myself,

B&M does rattle if you dont tighten the knob down enough...Other than that I think all of them rattle after 5500 RPMS

One thing I noticed, B&M rattles like a mofo on the KA after 5.5k rpm.... meanwhile, the SR does not rattle, I came to the conclusion that SR's crank shaft is much more balanced then the KA.

could be the crank, but it could be the stroke as well, the sr's shorter stroke may come off as more of a harmonic buzz

THe plastic bushing on my OBX was shot. I put the stock one back on, but it was missing the plastic bushing so i wrapped the tip with this rubber tape i have....no adhesive, it just fuses to itself. Pretty good stuff. I might try to get a B&M later on, the stock shifter feels reallly vague and numb after having the OBX in there. I liked the solid engagement and feeling of connection to the engine, but the rattle was just unbearable.
