Alright i have been going through this site like crazy the past few weeks learning everything i can about my new Z. I have always wanted one and now i finally have one and love it! It runs well but one thing i have noticed is that in lower gears, up to 3rd. when i start from being stopped or slow way down and put it in second to round a turn once i hit the gas there is a real bad rattling/vibration coming from under the car. it is kind of in between the two seats and directly under or a little in front of the shifter. Could it be a bad clutch? I have notice too it bogs pretty badly when starting from stopped even when in first. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

my first thought when you said rattling/vibration rounding a corner was exhaust.. get the car up in the air and check to make sure you don't have any broken hangers or holes in the system.. then you said the car bogs in first- do you mean its sluggish? is it a TT? is your maintenance up to date? filters, plugs, injectors, etc..

Edit: I just saw your other post and noticed you have an NA.. make sure your IACV is set properly and TBs are clean.. if it starts up and runs you're getting spark and fuel, but sounds like the engine is choking out somehow when the vacuum line is connected

Yeah it's an NA. At first I thought it was a fuel delivery problem but then remembered the vacuum hose. And it smells like gas but I hear that's pretty common when it's cold. Well I know it has some exhaust rattle because i can hear it. It's a different sound. The previous owner just threw on some mufflers and the stock pipes are rusting. I plan on replacing that soon. But this rattle/ vibration is only when I accelerate in low gears. Another thing that drives me to believe its a clutch issue of some kind is the sound lessens after I have completely let out on the clutch.

Yeah kind of sluggish like when I let out on the clutch but I haven't noticed it too much I think I might have just been babying it. It's my first 5-speed so I'm just starting to really get the hang of it.

does the sound/rattle vary or go away when you shift at a higher rpm vs a lower one?

It is mostly at the lower rpms. I dont notice it at all when at higher rpms. If i am in 3rd and i have to slow down a lot probably almost to where i should down shift, but i stay in 3rd, when i start to accelerate again i hear the vibration/rattle. So it is only in the lower rpms. I guess its not really while shifting at all. Trying to explain a little more.. if im at a stoplight and just start and shift up through the gears i dont hear the sound except for the very beggining, going from stopped to first. It is more like if i am already in second or down shift to second and slow down a lot and then accelerate it does it really bad. I guess i just use going around turns as an example because i have to slow down so much, but its really anytime im in 1st - 3rd and slow down substantially and then accelerate again. And its only in the low rpms for sure. Any ideas????

Your best bet is to get under the car and start looking for things. What kind of rattle is it? does it sound like loose metal? Things I would start with are heat shields and hangers like mentioned. As for vibrations it could be the driveshaft u joint if stock or an unbalanced 1pc, could be a broken transmission mount etc. Without a video or better description it's hard for us to help you more.

Edit-Fuel smell is not normal when cold, I highly suggest checking your clamps.

This will help

I guess i would describe it as more of a grinding kind of sound. I will try and get a sound/video clip of it tomorro and post it as soon as possible. I pretty sure it is just a loose clamp somewhere, i found a few of those spots but would have taken forever to find them all! Thanks for the Link! I have no clue when or if the fuel lines have been replaced. Do you know how much ballpark it is to replace them? pretty pricey isnt it?

Ok so I have some bad news I know what it is I just forgot the name it is in the transmission and I took my car to a mechanic it is having the same noise its something with a t I think but the mechanic told me he would have to tak the transmission apart to get to it and it would be a arm and a leg he said drive the car how it is supposed to be driven and it will last 2 to 5 years sorry man
