Hmm well after i have done my old worn out shocks to a new GR-2/Pro-kit combo, i here a rattling noise near the front shocks anytime my car vibrates (usually its from the bumps on the road).

I have no clue what it could be...i checked all the bolts where the shocks mount on top and they all are tight as can be. I also installed a front strut bar and re-tightened them but no difference.

The noise sounds like a metal washer rattling agianst another metal piece. I hear it on both front shocks but not the back.

what could it be...

Was your upper strut mounting insulator in good condition?

Is it possible that your spring isn't seated correctly? The upper spring seats need to be installed with the notch *facing* the engine.

I have that same problem with my H&R and Tokico set up. I've replaced the TC bushings and double checked everything. I've even installed new strut mounts...still makes this noise.

Well, the OE springs have some rubber on them to prevent a metal on metal noise (ie. the spring seats and the springs themselves). Now, I don't really hear a lot of people complaining about noise with H&R or Eibach springs but maybe you can try to get some of that stuff to wrap around the spring to quiet them down.

Whiteline makes it, and the only place I've ever seen it is PDM Racing.

Check it out about 3/4 of the way down the page. I think it's a long shot, but it's cheap and maybe worth a try.

hmmm...now that i think about it...

There was some insulators on the stock springs where th shocks and the spring met. I threw them out thinking that they wouldnt make much differnce.

Has anyone put them on their springs and still have the noise ?

there are insulators on the stock struts?? My car had this stuff on there already, but, I have the stock ones in a box. Never looked at them. Sounds like this could be the problem.

If it's just the matter of noise from a metal spring in contact with a metal spring seat, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I haven't really read many complaints about folks with aftermarket springs regarding noise, but that rubber was on the ends of the OE springs for a reason. The Whiteline stuff is probably worth a few bucks to try it, if the noise really bothers you.

We're generally not too concerned with NVH around here.

it doesnt really concern me, i was just trying to find the source. it only does it now and then, but, it would be nice to fix it. i dont like my car making clunking noises, people might get the wrong impression.

I'm having a similar problem. Similar enough, i think, to not start a new thread about it. The only difference is that mine only does it on the rear driver side wheel. It's just a loud clunking sound, as cory2081 put it, and its only when I hit larger bumps.

I did the bounce test, and everything is as stiff as can be.
