the car came with 130 miles on it. it came with a little bit of a rattle when the clutch is not pressed. its has progressively worsened. i have little knowledge of mechanics but i immediately thought it was the TO bearing. while i searched and the only result that seemed relevant was about a 350z TO bearing. after reading through the thread someone posted and said it was the dual mass flywheel or something. he said it doesn't indicate a problem. well, its a problem to me. its embarrassing. is it repairable? and is it covered under warranty? i have intake. everything else is stock. wuts the best way to go about this fellas?

Try this. With the car in a garage and your windows open (to hear any sounds better) depress the clutch with the car at idle, and hold it. Do you hear any rattling? (You shouldn't). Now while in neutral, let the clutch up. You may hear some slight rattles (if you don't try turning the AC on).

This is just the design of the clutch/flywheel. Going aftermarket generally makes the rattle louder.

Just a quirk in the VQ35 design...not sure if the G37 has the same issue. Feel free to jump in 08 coupe guys!

Next, see if your clutch sticks to the floor when you try to do a burnout. Rev to 5k+ and let the clutch go...mine (and most) stick to the floor and burn up. You can change the clutch fluid to a synthetic DOT 4 to limit the effects, but it will still do it. So far, the only solution is an aftermarket clutch.

**make sure you turn the VDC off

No, nothing to worry about, mine does it too. I believe the correct term for this is flywheel chatter. It also did it on my SVT focus till they replaced the dual mass flywheel in my car with a redesigned one b/c of so many people complaining. Wasn't a recall though, just a TSB.

G35stylez:

You are good to go. Don't worry about a thing. If you worry about all the sounds and chatter you hear on the G-35 manual transmission, you are going to go mad. Just ignore it and and go out there and flog the hell out of the car. My car chatters like hell. But, do I care? NO!

Other than the ethanol blend nonsense they call gasoline, i love my car. Wished they will switch back to regular gasoline so that my car can conserve gas as it used to.

So, don't worry about a thing. The G-35 Coupe rattles like hell, and you are going to experience a whole spectrum of smells from sweet to burning smell. Also, be patient as the car breaks in. The car gets easier to drive as it breaks in. By 20K miles, it becomes such an easy car to drive. Just my experience. I have a 2007 G-35 Coupe 6MT.

So, enjoy! Don't let the rattles give you any sleepness night. I cam close to sleepinig in the garage with my car when It was relatively new because I thought it was sick, and it rattled all day long.

My current theory is that its the transmission that is noisy. Likely inherent of its design. The Dual-mass flywheel helps to quell the noise (evidenced by the noise become much louder with a more traditional single mass flywheel with a sprung disc hub). The Toyota supra 6MT of old had the same noise and also used a dual-mass flywheel. Those trannies were known for being bulletproof.

C-Kwik,

I agree. My mechanic mentioned something about the dual mass flywheel as well. I wasn't paying too much attention at that moment he was describing the whole deal, as I was too excited at the prospect of having my mods finally installed.

I think all the 6MT have a little chatter... even when you shut the car off it does it!

Phew. My transmission is loud... and it does sound like it could be the throw out bearing.... it's real loud when I let off the clutch. You can also hear it while revving up...

^ That sounds like a different problem...you may want to have the dealer check it out.

Unfortunately the noise is going to get worse the more miles are put on the clutch.

I have an aftermarket single mass flywheel and my chatter goes away after 1k RPMs (while in neutral).
